“Dylan’s” 89. Back at it!

89 Jimmy 6.0/4l80e/MAGNUM 205/d60/14bolt
Guess I could give a little more update.

4l80 got rebuilt, guy said it was basically trashed and needed it. Got it in a finished up the crossmember today. With the new motor mounts I was able to drill some new holes and use the stocker. :D Makes me happy.

Got the headers back on, hopefully for the last time.

AC Compressor and all in, hopefully for the last time.

Routed wires and hope they’re in their final spots.

Kind of procrastinating on finishing the wiring. I’m so close but this part sucks. However I have learned a lot about electrical circuits while trying to figure this all out.

Looking back it is pretty crazy how much I’ve learned during this whole process. I don’t think I intended to go this deep into things but I’m glad I did. My knowledge base has grown about as much as the truck has.

The next time you see Tim, tell him I said he was dirty rotten ford owner since he’d disappeared from the site. We need to hog tie him and get the group together for bbq.

:haha:I’ll be sure to let him know... We might actually be able to drag him out for a meal.

A bunch of MS guys fell off. Bulldogk5 sold his. Oldtoyboyd’s crewcab is sitting in field. Whatever happened to Mr. Smartass? Sad sad deal.

Mr Smartass made a hit and run post within the last year but never saw him again.

That group came down here for a legendary meet & greet. We got together at The Shed in Vancleave with some Pensacola members, we hung out, ate and drank for 8 hrs. Great times. :woot:

The good ole days.

I’m sure I was lurking around back then. Seen many mentionings of the shed. Back when I had no money or facilities (or knowledge) to work on the truck. Just piled folks in and hit the back roads.

Welp, passenger header has to come off. O2 sensor won’t fit in its current location.

Got an intake mocked up. Not sure about the mounting bracket. Right now it’s just screwed into the plastic but i dont think that’s secure enough. Thinking about epoxying that screw and L bracket in place.

Trans cooler and thermostat mounted up. Might’ve gone too small on the cooler but it should be easy to upgrade to a stacked plate cooler if I need to.

And got a cooler bday present to share between the Jeep and Jimmy.

Pops came over last weekend to help track down the last few wires I was uncertain about and we got the O2 bung relocated. Bought some heatshield products for the passenger side fuel line and brake line. Got this week off so the plan is to just go through and do a bolt and line check then start filling up all the fluids. Should be making noise next weekend!

Hopefully

Ok, so Saturday is the day. Going through a checklist to make sure we’re good to go....

Oil lines tight
Trans lines tight
Fuel lines tight
Trans half filled
Motor filled
Gauges getting power
Temporary Mechanical oil pressure gauge plumbed
All grounds checked
Battery charged

Need:
Power steering fluid
Coolant
Brakes bled (no driveshafts but I live on a hill)
Gasoline

Anything I’m missing?

And just for your viewing pleasure....
This is the first time the top has been on in almost 3 years; makes it look enormous!

:(Little disappointing day.

First conundrum was the rear brakes. Fronts bled fine and we’re getting fluid to the rear lines but nothing is coming out of the bleeder valve on either side :dunno:. I cant think of a reason why. The banjo bolts look to right....I’m at a loss.

Front brakes worked good so we rolled her out of the garage for the first time in a LONG time. (Small success for the day). All fluids in, all wires checked, ready to crank........nothing. Turned over but wasn’t getting fuel. I thought I fell victim to a dead walbro pump. After hours of checking wires and voltage we finally tracked it down to a bad relay (and one dumb mistake on my part, but we won’t get into that). So we swapped the AC relay and fuel pump relay and we finally hear the fuel pump kick on. Thank you sweet baby Jesus! Annd then the rain hits. So we had to clean up quick and roll it back in the garage. No fire today :(

Looking good, lots of progress. Makes me wish I would have cut the rear quarters on mine like that. Check the proportioning valve, same thing happened to mine a few weeks ago.

I’m getting fluid to the rear lines, so prop valve should be good, no? It’s just not making its way through the caliper.

Yeah, I picked up a pair of old Blazen Offroad bumpers and you have to cut the rears for the bumpers, looks better that way to me anyway.

Ahh ok, guess I missed that part. Mine would trickle a small amount of fluid but not much when the prop valve was tripped.

Disappointing day but man she looks good out in the sun. Can’t wait to hear it running.

I know man! It should fire now unless I’m unlucky enough that more than 1 coil is bad. I’ll probably wait till next weekend to try again.

When we got her out I wanted to just stare at it for awhile. Ready for it to get some paint and tires!

I can't remember, what tires / size did you decide on?
