“Dylan’s” 89. Back at it!

89 Jimmy 6.0/4l80e/MAGNUM 205/d60/14bolt
Alright! It’s alive! We’re able to fire it up for about 10 seconds at first, fired right up and saw we had a ton of ATF pouring out the back. This was a 2wd 4l80e converted to 4wd and apparently when it got rebuilt they did not swapped the lube orifice out for a solid plug.

Found a fuel leak, more atf leaks, very small oil leak that I think is just coming from that mechanical gauge I plumbed in just for start up. Fixed them all, topped off with more ATF and fired again for about another 20 seconds. I’m gonna have to fix that plug before it can run any longer. It’s crazy how much fluid comes out of that tiny hole.

That’s a big milestone for me!

Well there’s some videos of what I’ve been dealing with this week.

Long story short, had a bunch of bugs to work out including a dying fuel pump yesterday. You can see in the first video it fired up no problem, but after that it would stutter and die. Fuel pressure wouldn’t get above 30psi. I got a lot of help from some memebers in a thread I started; swapped out the crappy walbro pump for the ACdelco ep381 that I was lucky enough to have already, and viola! Now maybe I can finally do a break-in run!

Here’s a quick clip of the Dakota digital gauges in and dash bezel back together. Still gotta clean up some wires and I noticed while taking the video that the right turn signal doesn’t flash. :dunno:

Meh, I’ll get that later.

It’s tight in there but it looks like my shifter setup should work out. I need to find a way to make a support plate for the bottom and something that’ll look decent up top.

I’m having to slow down a good bit to let the wallet recover. Got another little one coming, had to buy a new Mom-mobile, and the Jeep wasn’t the wisest choice of a daily driver but I love it. My goal is to have this thing moving on its own by the end of the year. Then it immediately needs exhaust and a tune bc I can only run it for about 10 min before my eyes start burning.

Not much to report, just threw the bumpers on for S&Gs. You might recognize them from another members rig. I’m not super pleased with the rear bumper as it seems to stick out a mile, but for $500 for the pair I can live with it for a while.

Got some new shifter knobs. Much better.

That’s it. Gotta save some dough.

I hate Ward (Bulldog) doesn’t come around anymore, there was a few guys from your area that just disappeared.

Are there any other options for a rear bumper with a tire carrier? Only one I know of is the DIY4x and I’m just not a fan of the look. I like a tube bumper style.

I do like the look of this bumper, just wish it was a little more tucked in. Maybe I can do some modding to bring it in some. It’s supposed to be good for up to a 44” tire. I’ll never run that big so I might have some room to work with.

It looks like you could push it forward a bit, especially since you dont need the rear winch box. Trim up the frame horns and redrill?

That’s what I was thinking. The rear of the winch box would need to be cut off bc it hits the skid plate already. Just gotta watch the clearance on the side wings and tail lights. I’ll have to wait till I get tires to really mess with it.

She’s still sittin. Like a yard dog just waiting for someone to play with it again.

We just have a lot of expenses coming up. Trying to buy a few acres before the end of the year, 2nd child is around the corner, Holidays. Every year I tell people i want truck parts for Christmas and I t just never happens. I’d be done by now if I got all my Christmas wishes haha!

I did find some H2 wheels close by for pretty cheap so I’m probably gonna pick those up soon. Been watching the Trail to Sema and the Burb just looks so damn good, I gotta steal some ideas off of it.
