“Dylan’s” 89. Back at it!

89 Jimmy 6.0/4l80e/MAGNUM 205/d60/14bolt
That's exactly like what I want to make. Will you be plating the underside?

Got those Boggers yet?

Not yet. Yet again I want something that is backordered. I ordered the KM3s 39x13.50x17. Estimated ship date is 2/22. If these take too long I think I’m gonna go with the Maxxis Razrs in a 37. BFGs are pretty notorious for running small so I expect these 39s to be less than 38”.

Not gonna plate it just yet but I did try to build it so that I could. I gotta see how far the 205 hangs out that right side since it’s not clocked flat.

Help me decide here.

I sold the rear bumper and now I have some money to burn. I have most of the necessities so I’m trying to decide on things that are just on the “want” list.

Dual batteries
Cage
Sliders
Soft top

I’ve kind of been thinking about buying a bender. I still need a cage, sliders and a rear bumper. I’m no fabricator but I’ve really enjoyed building the crossmember. Just wondering if it would be worth it to have. Too many choices

I was undecided about getting a bender, I think what worried me the most was the cost of learning (wasted materials). I decided not to buy one and go with the Diy4x cage kit because the overall cost was similar and I'm not really interested in building stuff for other folks afterwards (I don't have the time plus I'm just not that good of a fabricator yet to be offering cage work to folks). That said, after having invested in sliders that purchase would probably have justified the bender.

I guess if you bought the software to help minimize waste you can justify a bender and possibly resell it later to recoup some cost. If you were able to find a used set up that would be a bonus too.

Another mental note with respect to the cage is the final truck. Adding a soft top may allow you an inch or 2 of additional clearance for cage height / headroom, something to look in to if you go cage first and top second. I shifted gears hard mid build with the full top conversion, my cage kit was bought for a half top but had the full top chop already been done (or at least planned) I would have added about 2" to the cage height - I see now this small amount would have made a huge difference in headroom. Of course, I say this knowing I'll probably never put any kind of real top back on it since I can park it inside, the additional height might not be possible even with a soft top.

That’s all good info. I hadn’t thought about buying the software but that seems like a no brainer now.

I actually made some money off the bumper so that would cover almost the entire cost of the bender, dies and the hydraulics to run it. I would just have to build a stand for it. So I wouldn’t be out any money really, but I don’t know if I would have much use for it after doing the bumpers, cage and sliders, etc. I guess it’s something I could always tinker with later.

From a cost standpoint, I was (foolishly) only looking at using it for the cage. Since you'll be doing bumpers and sliders I can see where it'd be worth it. The added cost of pre-made sliders alone makes it worth it.

You're next problem will be deciding on how much tube to buy, enough for the cage or go for the real bulk discount and get enough for the other projects. LOL

That’s the next problem. Where to put it and all the tube! Haha. But by the time I get to all that I will be able to pull all the vehicles out of the garage (except my wife’s of course :surepal:).

I've never heard of them but it looks good, I like the front bumper too.

That price tho.... you could build something that nice for much cheaper, and mount the tire carrier in a proper double shear.

Pardon my ignorance but please explain to me what you mean by double shear.

Reason being is I hope to be building my on bumpers at some point and I want to learn.

Double shear is when both sides of the hinge or pivot point are supported. With respect to the tire carrier, it would need a rigid brace on the top to be considered double shear. It prevents the leverage of the carrier from trying to snap off the hinge because it’s only supported on the bottom side.
