You can band-aide a weak cp3 by throwing a lift pump on it.

i have had a few times i had to pump them up . i hardly ever use the screw . i just pump till tight and fire up . if it dies 1 more time and she is running fine.So I ran out of fuel because I'm stupid. High winds on I-70 cost me more fuel than I thought. Not really a big deal initially as i was within walking distance of Green River. However, I broke the nylon bleed screw for my fuel filter. Dammit!
Got someone on the way up from moab to bring me another... along with a few spares just in case. What a crappy design. Anybody upgraded to aluminum or brass?

Mostly just feeling stupid for running out in the first place.![]()
I mentioned the part where I was stupid, right? They have this thing that they invented about 70 years or so ago........ called a fuel gauge.![]()
Lift pump? I'll have to look that up.Aluminum ones are a popular upgrade. Personally I use a lift pump, it will prime the fuel system without pulling the plug, at least it does when I change filters.
If it happens again I'll try that, although now I have a couple extra screws, just in case.i just pump till tight and fire up . if it dies 1 more time and she is running fine.

My son put a FASS filter and pump on his '03. He has good results with it, but he did run his fuel level down to an 1/8th of a tank and it didn't want to restart. He had heard of Dodge having this issue when down to a 1/4 tank. It's a low pressure pump that feeds fuel from the tank, up through the filter, and to the cp3 (high pressure pump).
Filter housings on the dmax are notorious for leaking air. Causing low fuel pressure, no start after sitting overnight, damage to cp3 and injectors, ect.
Adding a lift pump stops a bunch of these issues and depending on the model, can also add better filtration, always a plus.
I think it breaks from over tightening it. When I tried to remove it, the whole top just broke off.I’ve never had a problem with the factory plastic one but I have always used a 6 point socket on it.
Your allison still being good!?
welp, It's injector time.![]()
Took the travel trailer down to Bryce Canyon last week and the truck was way under powered all the way down. I did replace the fuel and air filter, which helped but I was having trouble maintaining 65mph on anything but flat ground. Stopped in Beaver and had my fuel pressure checked along with a few other things and the guy said the only other culprit was the injectors. I've got an appointment Thursday morning to diagnose the injectors to see how bad they are.
I got a quote earlier for a shop to do the whole set... $3800!Wow, that is not cheap.......
To do it right, you want to use genuine Bosch rebuilt injectors, reseal the cups, and replace the high pressure injection lines.
