06-09 Impala SS: Looking for any info on them

Man if you were missing the SS badges on that thing you would have a pretty good sleeper on your hands. The 16's make it look like any other Impala of that vintage. Looks like a rental car with the small wheels.

FWD burnouts are fun when you lock the e-brake on and it starts scooting with the front tires at full boil. Shhh. Don't tell Avis rental cars as I regularly whipped up on rental Impalas like that. 3800's do good burnouts, blown or not.

Yeah the 16s dial the look right back, just looks like your grandmas car now :haha:

I’m contemplating doing some exhaust work. Considering removing the resonator and leaving the stock muffs on, or leaving the resonator and cutting the muffs off for straight pipes. Not quite sure what would be the better choice here :dunno:

Well I’ve had the car for a couple months.

In that time I’ve done the rear struts, used some amazon prime choice auto specials. Changed what I’m pretty sure was the original plugs, replaced oil pressure switch(DOD works as it should now)

The hood that was on it was fairly road rashed up. Picked up one from a pick and pull for $40, was even the same color surprisingly. It’s got some light hail damage, but eons better than what was on it. Swiped the headlights out of the same car, one happened to be a TYC replacement.

Had another go at tinting windows. What a hassle, oh how I forgot the joys. I tried some of that static cling stuff, it is garbage. Won’t ever use that again, you couldn’t see out the back window at all. And what could be seen was just blurry as all flock chops. I put some 20% adhesive backed stuff on the back window, figured out a slick way to shrink the tint to the window profile. I left the static cling on the side windows for now, most likely come spring I’ll deal with it :doah:

Than I got bored, out came the sawsall and the mufflers fell off. Strange how that works eh
I left the cat/resonator in place, reused the stock tailpipes. It’s got a pretty deep rumble to it, doesn’t seem to drone to bad. I’m happy with the lack of mufflers, the wife on the other hand isn’t :haha:

After getting the DOD working and a new set of plugs in it, it increased the mileage a fair bit. Seems to be the same or if not better than the 3.5 v6 was in the 2010.

Overall I’m fairly happy with that pile of parts, and I enjoy it more than the 2010. But most of the enjoyment is prob the new pipes more than anything :haha:

The body shop guys all tell you that junkyard parts won't match your car at all due to factory variation, fading, blah, blah. I've done it many times, even being off like 4 years and it always looks better than the color match the shop does. GM is pretty good at putting out consistent color - and consistent orange peel ;).

Yeah I wasn’t to worried when I bought the hood, figured it would look way better with a less beat up slightly not matching painted hood :D
