07+ GM Wheels on a SFA

Hey y'all, I've been running this setup for about 6 months after pondering the concept for quite a while. I always hated how we solid front axle guys couldn't run a new body style wheel on our trucks because of the hub bore diameter. Well it took quite a bit of doing, but here is how I did it for those interested.

Of course first I found some wheels of my liking on the local CL, scored these 18x8 Alloys for $300.

Next I had them machined to accept a bigger hub like the ones on our rigs.The final bore ended up to be 94mm. I found an older gentleman around town that cut all 4 wheels for $60.

Once this was completed I had to have some custom built adapter spacers made to correct the high positive offset of the wheels.

At that point I was down right scared to put additional leverage/stress on the undersized factory 7/16" studs. I opted to upgrade to a 1/2" stud to ensure strength wouldn't be an issue. The studs I ended up with are used for drag cars. Knurl diameter was the same for the front, they pressed right in. I drilled the rear axle flanges to 14mm to accept the larger knurl diameter; since it was smaller.

I was happy with the end result and proceeded to bolt everything together.

I decided to go with 35x12.50x18 Nitto Trail Grappler for my tires. I was, and still am extremely happy with my choice, I have never seen a square body with NBS wheels.

Looks great! Digging the staggered spacers to balance the front and rear offsets as well.
 
Thanks! It took forever to figure out what I wanted as far as stance goes. The front end determined the thickness of the spacers so that the locking hubs would have a good reveal inside the center caps once bolted up. Appreciate the kind words.
 
Looks great, but why offset spacers? Are the rims not the same backspacing? Or is your axle not a factory option?

On my K10 the rear axle stance was about 2" narrower than the front - I'm assuming it's the same for his K5 and he wanted to have the same track width front / rear.
 
The rear end is narrower by 4", the staggered spacers were used to even everything out. And say I used a 2.5" spacer overall, the front center caps would not line up with the locking hubs.

This gives you an idea of what I mean, if the spacer was over 1.75" in the front, the hub wouldn't protrude from the center cap to give you access.

Well, I guess I would have been lazy and done the 1.75" spacers all around. I don't mind the rear being narrower. I barely tuck the 15.5s tires during articulation as it is.

I always thought the rear was narrower for tracking purposes. Either way, the truck looks killer with the new rims.
 
88-up ifs stuff also runs a deeper backspacing on the rims and sucks the tire/rim combo in to much and can cause problems.
 
mind me asking where you got spacers made and there cost for us guy's wanting to do this mod? Glad someone finally did this as it give other options now. Your truck looks slick there by the way and great write up!

Lenny, at motorsport-tech.com built the adapters for me. The set ran $295. I have around $800 in this setup between wheels, adapters, studs, and machine work. Well worth it to me since I don't like after-market wheels, and wanted a different look.
 
First time I have ever seen a set of 18" wheel on one of these trucks that didn't make me want to gouge my eyes out.
