1/2-ton 4L80?

That rpo in the glove box? Maybe that was swapped in. :dunno:

Possible. I didn't cross-check the VIN with the dash plate. But at some point it ceases to matter. The truck is destined for scrap soon at the rate it's rusting apart. I was curious to see if GM placed the 4L80 in front of the 8.5" 10-bolt, that just seemed like overkill for that axle. Looks like they over killed it sometimes.

When I looked up the RPO codes earlier the vin I used was the one on the sticker. The RPO's that came up on the list matched the sticker. That don't mean the door could have been swapped. I don't think that outside of the 454SS trucks the 4L80e was not normally available in half ton GMT400's. I'd still be inclined that if it is a 80 in that truck that it was swapped in.

Thanks for doing that. :waytogo:

You want the tranny? They're not THAT hard to find. The rest of the truck is thoroughly shelled out. :dunno:

It's not my truck, the buddy is still driving it every day. But everyone (including him) knows that he's well overdue for a replacement. He just hasn't found what he's looking for yet.

Nope, they aren't that hard to find, you just don't understand the way I am. I am one of those guy that stand to see usable stuff junked.... and we live close enough it's plausible...

Well, the brief moment that I spent getting that one picture was long enough that he tried to sell it to me on the spot. I did not and still do not want it.
But if you want it, it's not out of the question. IMO, you'd be better off buying the $500 NV4500+T-case that is posted on our local CL server at this point in time. But that's just my thought.

What am I saying? If you want to spend your time & money saving stuff from the scrap yard, why are you not buying the diesel farm truck that I have for sale? :dunno:

I don't currently need any farm truck parts... and honestly had to tell myself multiple times I don't need your dad's truck.... I do need a 4L80E for my 76 thou...

What's it worth to ya (transmission or truck, either way)? Maybe getting an offer would finally kick him into actually buying the newer truck he's been talking about all year. :dunno:

No no no.... don't do that to me. You have NOOO idea the soft spot I have for single cab, GMT400 2500/3500 trucks...

Another thing to point out.
I currently live close enough to Chicago that I have to pay Chicago junkyard/Craigslist prices for parts.
Which I refuse to do.
So that leaves me driving out towards the Mississippi River to find the yard/c-list parts I so desire ( 2wd 4l80E)
Well by the time I drive two hours west I just don't have the expendable time I need to track down parts via a yard or C-list. I would never had time for a weeknight meetup. Anyway. Point is that buying a part from a member might be a better way to go as there is a trust factor involved. ( Not working about someone beating you to it or buy it out from under you and so forth)

If you catch my drift.

I drove 3 1/2 hours just to look at a couple engines a few Saturdays ago for my cutlass..... that's half way to the UP!

Or we could meet at Baumgartner's....lol

I understand. We have cheap parts up here, but they're so sparse that I have driven multiple hours to find certain things. And nothing is crummier than driving an hour away to find a 6.2 flywheel and finding that it's actually an sbc flywheel. I'm glad I spotted the error before buying it, but I was still out the time to go look at it.

Buying from members is a good idea. You know we head South regularly, it wouldn't be hard to meet up if you find you want to buy something from up here.

Not saying it can't be true by any means, but have never heard of a 4L80 in a 1/2 ton 2wd truck with a 10 bolt rear from the factory in all my years working on them and reading the internet. Have heard of some 1500 series trucks with an NV4500 along with the 14SF rear axle but never really confirmed that trans came factory. I do know that some special 1500 models such as the 454SS had the 4L80, but also a 14SF rear axle, and believe the 6.5 turbo diesel trucks had some other components. On the other hand it is pretty common knowledge that 6-lug 14SF rear axles were optional in 1500 series trucks. The F44 option code included that axle and I have seen several in person, and of course they had 6-lug light duty 2500 trucks around in the late-80's to early to mid-90's.
