14ff Hub Failure

Now, to convince an AAA tow truck driver to help me move it into the driveway with only 3 wheels.

Inclined driveway, or level?

If level, easy. Heck, worst case, PM some redheaded idiot :surepal: to drive down and help; I'm always happy to lend a hand to a fellow CK5'er. I've got some of those vehicle dollies on casters. One of those on each rear tire and some creative use of ratcheting straps, stick it in FWD, and you can pull the thing into the driveway under its own power.

Pretty tricky gutter, with slight inclined driveway. I'm sure I could get creative, but hoping to get AAA to do it for free :waytogo:

Ha good luck with that.

"Hello AAA can I get a 20 foot tow?" :haha:

No, you just call them and tell them you need a tow to "the garage".

And when he gets here, you hope he's a cool dude.

Let him take it around the block so he has a mileage reading to show. :haha:

Hell, he may be getting a Trader Joe's big holiday beer with a bow on it if he is nice.

Cant you chain a log to the axle on the missing tire side, put it in 4WD and just drive it that far?....

If i had to, and had a log, yes.

I'm all for being creative, but if AAA will do it for free.....why bother. I'll be drinking a nice hot cup of coffee, and watching the tow truck guy move it.

fyi use AAA more than a few times in a billing / member year and you get in trouble.

I've got the fancy coverage. So i get like 5 total calls, 2 tows up to 100 miles, and a few other short ones I think.

I've been towed like 4 times in 10 yrs. haha.

But worth the insurance for the one time something goes wrong, you aren't out a $600 tow bill.

If they get pissy, the offer stands. OTOH, I'm all for having a pro do heavy lifting, figuratively and literally.

Ah, they send you a nastygram warning when you're pushing the limit. But I think you know this the same way I do :haha:

Thanks man!

I'm pretty sure i've had my truck towed by choice more times than needed. Don't want to drive a truck with open headers to the exhaust shop? Just pull the ECM fuse and give AAA a ring....:D

Well, got the truck moved and axle out.

Not so lucky with the replacement from pacific fab.

Show up at 830am after borrowing a truck and driving an hour. "Oh, I was going to call you this morning. My tech measured wrong, and it's 40.5" perch width". Damn.

Driving all over trying to figure out how to not kill myself pulling one at pick and pull. Oh, and I set out with no tools, cause I was just picking up. Damn.

that sucks...

and pulling one by yourself at the pnp is not easy.

If your still down here, I can loan you some tools. You can also try vintage Chevy up in Fremont for take out axles.

Picking up a 3.73 axle. Anyone able to help me setup the gears? Willing to pay for your time tonigjt or tomorrow. Let me know!

Ok, so they gear swap sounds easy enough, as long as I have a dial indicator....which I don't. Debating installing as is, and having someone do the gear swap, or finding someone to give me a hand. We shall see

Hopefully i'll be dropping over tomorrow night with my dial indicator and checking on Darren.
