1945 Willys MB. Part 5, Actually doing things

Low slung big tired Willys Mb
I finished up the other side the other day. Decided to mig this one.

I was doing some calculations on my brake system. There is no way I'm going to easily be able to stop this thing with manual brakes. I currently have a 1" wilwood master from the previous build. Using a jeep XJ pedal assembly and 1/2 ton chevy brakes on the D44s. Decided on hydroboost since there is no way i could even think of fitting a vacuum booster on the firewall. I ordered a unit off of a 2010 F350 on ebay. Same unit as anyone else but uses a flat fire wall mount and 1.5" master cylinder which the math says will be perfect for my setup. I am already using a Gm type 2 pump from a jeep. I plan on taking off the plastic res and pressing in a fitting for remote res. Lets see how long it takes all of this stuff to get shipped to Alaska.

The hydroboost got delivered today along with some fittings and a reservoir. The 1.5" master is flipping massive, the booster/master combo is longer than the engine. My plan worked out using the flat firewall mount of the F350. Just welded up the holes and re drilled them. Im going to have to find or make a shorter brake reservoir. this one is about 2 inches too tall

Im not sure where I picked up this trick, but it has come in clutch a few times in my life. If you ever need to hole saw a larger hole you can use the original saw as a guide inside the new one provided you have enough threads

That's a great trick. Thanks for sharing. Could have saved me a lot of hassle a few times.

This thing is fuggin awesome. Glad i stumbled apon this build!

Thanks man

Another $300 order to summit and I got some PTFE hose for the pressure lines and the last fittings I need. the power steering plumbing is now "complete." I need to mount the cooler under the grill and make up some last connections.

Just when I think I have enough fittings and adapters I find something else. I guess the master cylinder I got is metric, so adapters for that.

Can anyone confirm what size the fitting/ pressure port is on a GM hydraulic slave cylinder? I thought it was 3/8IF until I tried to put my fitting into it just now.

I found one source at m12 bubble flare. Usually rock auto has these things listed, not this time.
