I don't think that would work. I've been doing recall repairs on the L83 trucks for loss of vacuum and subsequent loss of braking assist. Main repair is reprogramming the abs module allowing more braking assist coming from the abs system in low vacuum situations. Some still lack assist after the reprogramming so the vacuum pump ends up getting replaced under a special coverage warranty extension.
The 10 speed is a bad ass trans. It's first use was in the ZL1 Camaro for Chevy and the Raptor pickup for Ford. In the trucks, it always seems like it's in the right gear. Having the deep low gears in it is a big reason why they don't put really deep gears in the axles anymore. 3.42's as deep as they run. I'd still run a deeper gear with bigger tires, but the tall OD gears help make up for any axle ratio and tire size you plan on running.
