1964 Nova Wagon “Plank”

Nova
Bondo is just a dent but the dent is gnarly. Not sure that’s getting pulled out cheaper than replacing. :( 5/8 think bondo :(

Had to cut the bumper guard off, much better. And I’m not buying the sellers story anymore. Too much janky wiring and things missing to have been a 2 owner car. And sitting 25 years? That’s a lot of newish registration stickers I’m seeing. 1A7BA3F5-152A-4DA2-9164-994069B5B257.jpeg0B2180D5-879D-4389-885B-0B2632B3AB8D.jpeg04FCAF53-D42E-4D78-A270-C1F370D1FBA3.jpeg410AA23D-E7C4-471F-AA52-2211C67DA149.jpeg

looks like you have a bad freeze plug in the alt picture. lots of work to do

Don't know if it's anything you need but saw it and thought of this build.

Thanks for that. For now the budget doesn’t allow any restoration stuff yet. (Believe me, I wanna pull the trigger on everything all at once haha) I do have some new headlights coming to replace those terrible LED ones, new taillights, engine gaskets and such. :D

I normally dive head first into everything and that’s where I get in trouble. Small steps, small fixes, and hope to have funds for any big fixes. :waytogo:

Thanks guys. I’ve printed all 3.
Something really weird about this horn relay/junction block is seeing both red AND black wires going to it. That’s freaking maddening. I can see on my car I have 2 reds going to the block.

I can disconnect cables from the battery and not have a spark. But if I disconnect from that horn/block I get a spark. So the wagon is parked in the garage with that lead disconnected. I am unable to start it since it’s the only wire going back to the battery. I’m checking the battery for drains and still inconclusive.

I drove it around some couple days ago, just cruising and hitting the freeway for maybe 5 miles. Feeling it out. Just don’t have time to dive into it yet. I did get some LED tail lights and regular halogen headlights for it. Those front LEDs are really bright, much better than the GE lights I had on my ‘68 c10. But, alas, they are ugly. I can’t come to terms, they can’t stay.

I also got my gaskets in. I don’t know what can of worms I’m going to open when I start removing the carb, intake and exhaust. Worried about studs. Once they are off, should the surfaces be machined? Or just cleaned real good? Also, gasket goes on dry or some cooper sealant?

Thanks

I want to say one of those black wires has been installed wrong.
You need to ohm out the relay, it maybe welded close. This would cause a spark when connecting a positive wire.

Been a long time since I did Chevy 6 intake and exhaust, my mind is confusing AMC and Chrysler.
As long as they are having them trued will be best for the long run.

Haven’t been able to start tracing wires yet. Injured my knee playing racquetball last week and kinda taking it easy. Work first. However, last 2 days I’ve been taking a motorcycle class for my license. Doesn’t help the knee much :(

I’ll start with pulling fuses, hope to find the draw that way. Also pulled tail lights out and found a missing bulb and nothing working. (Was previously working) Right blinker stopped working and front orange running lights are out. Might have some fuses out but it may also be a wiring mess somewhere. For now I gotta fix it, all new harness/fuse panel can come later.

Spare tire pocket. Tried whacking that dent, forgot it’s actual metal on these cars.

Any option for tightening this rear view mirror? Looks like someone already tried. Don’t mind getting a new one but rather save those funds for something that pops up later. Also, I will try some 0000 steel wool for clean it up but anything better? And this “weld splatter” pitting sucks. My C10 had that too. Techniques? Thanks y’all

look like you could up size the threaded part. the hole in the mirror seems to be bigger than the threaded hole

Nice score.
I was on the market for a 62-64 nova for 3 years before I gave up and bought my studebaker.

Maybe we can start the ck5 vintage wagon club.
Lol.
I actually got my lark from your area of the world. And shipped it to my house.
I don't (and never plan to) have a build thread on here for it. But I'm doing a supercharged 3800 V6 swap into mine... not sure I'd go that route had I ended up with a nova thou.
This going to be your family hauler? Or just a beach cruiser? Going to ditch the 6

Sorry sir,
Hole size and bolt are good. Just took it apart for cleaning. But if you look at the pivot ball, someone has tried to either take it out or pinch it. Sucker flaps around :(

Beags: cruiser on a tight budget. Without a budget I go too far, to fast… pulling everything apart ending up with a huge project. When the search started I wanted something more done so I don’t fall into that problem again but here we are lol. Cruise it for now, see how the economy and my business does, sell something else and maybe have more funds for it later.

Dream…Save ugly outside with clear (aka patina) TCI front/rear, Ecoboost mustang driveline, nice restored interior with buckets.

Stupid money or sponsored… Focus RS AWD, cause similar width :D

Ahh yes, I have no solution. I bet someone somewhere has come up with a procedure. Maybe check the Hamb

Yep I hear you.
My stude is on a tight budget to.
That's why when I was looking for an engine I grabbed this one.
It was bonneville completely running and driving for 500 bucks.
The buick 3800 was not what I wanted. But it met the budget really. I am spending some money to add a intercooler and holley efi thou.

My cool LED tail lights don’t fit the bezel :(

Throttle spoon has dug into pedal, can really feel it. Not sure if this is getto or “hot rodding” but I took an already broken ashtray lid and glued it to the bottom of the pedal. Should work great lol518C6CA8-8B77-4754-9353-49744270CB0A.jpeg

Keeping with the budgets. I pinned the pivot ball best I could, positioned it, and clear siliconed it in an attempt to hold it still.

Had these orange run/brake/blinker lights kicking around for a while. They are destined for the blazer front grill but will work temporarily until I can find something better. Gets me to the car show Sunday :D Oh! Also I found a tail light harness for $200. No way, so I bought the colors needed and made my own. No bulb sockets anymore, just Molex connectors. Came out great and will be perfect when new lights with reverse get mounted. Really bummed those others didn’t work out.

Got new mirrors mounted. First time this car has ever had a passenger mirror. Not sure how I like them. Weren’t expensive and I was looking for something more useful than the original round mirrors. I’m keen to see it outside where I can see both at the same time.

Started playing with steel wool and simple green. I don’t know what the original color is. I thought maybe brown from the jams, but cleaning is revealing blue and greenish colors. Top was either blue or white. Not sure yet.
