1964 Nova Wagon “Plank”

Nova
Got the throttle linkage figured out, just not finished. Driver side header is rubbing the steering box :( Starting on all the small stuff. The header and some kind of shift linkage is the last (?) and everything else is just time consuming.

Transmission support is in. Three bolts per side. Two from the subframe connectors and one through the original crossmember location. 1.5" square tubing and 3/16" plate folded over and welded again. :waytogo:

700 or 2004r ? The 2004r fits exactly where a powerglyde did, with only a small cross member move

Probably going to want lower gears in the future. Though my 66 did well with 3.08, and 2004r

This looks like a 700r4.
The 200r4 has no removable tail housing, it's one piece

Wagons come stock with 3.35 and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been touched. Not in a hurry to change gears before driving.

I should mention, the passenger header was crashing into the curtain hard. I knew this beforehand and massaged that side a bit with an air hammer and BFH. I like the air hammer, small adjustments and controlled. I chose to massage the apron over the header cause I don't care about the aprons. The contact with the steering box is another mater and I didn't notice that until it was in, spark plugs, and wires all in :( I'm going to try bending in place. I don't think it's much but that box is gunna get hot.

I also did the same thing, air hammer, around the HEI. It would not fit nevermind being able to rotate it. I think that came out nicely. Again, all this stuff will have to be worked again when the end drivetrain goes in. For now it's fine. I cut the blower motor lip off and riveted/RTVed a piece of steel in to replace the duct tape LOL. Also helps me mount stuff there.

I forgot. The trans dipstick is gunna be tricky. I don't want an aftermarket one, I like Bender's long locking one. Gunna need work. I don't think the TV cable is going to be a problem but I gotta remember how it connects at the trans haha

The dipstick tube can be bent, just carefully so it doesn't kink.
As for gearing, lightweight vehicle and small tires, 700r4 will do just fine

Yeah, I've started to tweak the tube but that firewall clearance is no joke. Going up next to the dizzy might work but that's real estate for the fuel supply line. Run outside the valve cover and above the header could work but damn that's tight. Playing "hotrodder" again Thursday.

8.2 I believe
But with some goodies it will be fine for the drivetrain I WANT to put in. Faster, funner, but less torque from a stop = axle saver :D

Just goffin around. Power washed the serp brackets and some other things...installed and quickly remembered why Bender's water neck was so goofy. That alternator location is directly between neck and radiator inlet. This should be pretty close to actually radiator location.

Throttle arm they wanted $100 for. Had some thick wall tubing laying around. I won't be going simple rod like the kits often do, but instead some all thread and heims on each end. Should be good.

Bender's shift linkage is getting sacrificed and modified for Plank. Gotta figure that one out and while under the car, maybe figure out that header VS steering box issue.

Oh My Goodness does everything want to occupy the same space.

Had to cut more of the old Hydrolic Ram mount. You can see my air hammer dent for the idler arm :(

Better news
Throttle arm and linkage appear perfect.

Ran through the gears and made a dot where it seems "happy-est". No, I won't have 2-1 gear control since I'm not forking over the money for a new cam on the column. PRND3 is good enough.

Lots of wiring and boring stuff left to do. 1 big project is converting the rear to U-bolt and fitting a shim in the pack to bring the nose up.

Dual 2.5" with 2" H crossover. Was a kit from Summit that I added the crossover. Did not go together without some cutting and welding, but that was expected. Especially the passenger side tailpipe, since it's a wagon. 1st exhaust I've ever done. Perfect? No, but I'm stoked with the outcome.
