Don't you know a guy who could come up with a cool wrap color for it?

I have not ever found anything that will take off cheap paint without damaging the base surface in some way. And then there is not enough good material left to cut and polish. This is how the "patina" look started.
I had thought about it but it doesn't really solve my problem because vinyl is porous enough I'm afraid it wouldn't seal the moisture out. Wrapping the hood on this truck would be an interesting challenge.
 
Putting some mufflers to use that are recycled from @Bent77. The mufflers I had on the 66 are a little too quiet. When I stopped for traffic signals half the time I would think the truck had died. I also like a little more audible feedback driving a clutch. The quieter mufflers will work better on my son's 72 Skylark.

Last time I did the tailpipe as a 90 and I never liked how it looked, even though you'd never see it unless you crawl under the truck. This time I did a 45. You can't see the exhaust tip standing beside the truck.

I don't remember if I talked about this before, but the 327 still has the factory cartridge oil filter. Since I don't need to do frequent oil changes, I'm going to leave it.

I'm borrowing some photos from others. For one thing, the 327 is painted a turquoise color. But this will show how the filter works.

This is what it looks like assembled on the engine.

You have to remove the bypass valve in order to change out the o ring that seals the canister to the block.

I tried fishing the o-ring out, but didn't have any luck.

The only thing I don't like about this set up is that you can't pre-fill the oil filter. Aside from that, I think it's fun to leave it like it was design. I think 67 was the last year they used this type of filter. You can get kits that replace the bypass valve with an adapter for a spin on filter.
 
I remember seeing a similar cartridge filter that used toilet paper as the media. Interesting concept. There was a big debate on extra soft or extra strong.
 
I once had to service an old Onan generator, that had an IH gas burning V8 (on propane) engine. It had a similar cartridge oil filter, but somewhere along the way, some one had some how managed to break the bolt right in the middle.

So instead of replacing the bolt, they welded it back together. Crooked. That was a nightmare to get back together.........

These have to use a metal encased cartridge because there's a spring on the bolt to help seat the filter.

If that ever happens to me I'll take it as a sign to do the spin on filter conversion.
 
If the o ring is old and hard it is difficult to remove, once you have a fresh o ring in there, and the next filter change isn't 10 years away, it will come out with a pick easy.

I loved my cartage filter system. I switched out be cause pf151 got impossible to find for awhile.
 
I figure the filter might eventually become impossible to find. This last time I ordered Amsoil they didn't have their house brand filters in stock for 3 different vehicles I needed. Luckily Wix filters were available.
 
One cool thing about these trucks is the metal dash and all of the magnetic stuff you can get these days. I needed something for cupholders and I found these magnetic dealios. Held my big mug all the way to work.

I'm also use a Mob Armor magnetic phone holder. I have one of those in the 73 and the crew cab as well. Very surprising how well they hold.
 
More horses than my old TBI350. 220/320

I remember my dad used to tell stories about his 67 El Camino he and a buddy drag raced with in Yuma. It had the popular 327/350 engine. They would put a triple deuce setup on it for racing and put the 4bbl back on for regular duty.

That's part of the reason I like keeping the 327 in it.


Rereading this entire thread.

This is incorrect, and a very common misconception. The change from (optomistic) GROSS horsepower ratings to (realistic) NET horsepower rating really make people look back at the 60's with rose colored glasses.

That being said, definitely keep the 327.

The old Harbor Freight switch light. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have two in my truck for that very reason....
