1968 C10 DD, project "New Tricks"

Anyone know if I can use this for my torch? My oxygen tank's label is slightly different than this one. I found this 4' tank in a property we cleaned out. Has about 1700 psi left. Wouldn't mind using it :D

sweet I love finding tanks free or cheep . nothing better than owning your own tanks .

un 1072 shows a basic oxygen gas . not medical related .

but someone else will pop in with 100% info soon.

Yep, unfortunately it has a company name on the crown. So it's probably a rental and I'll never be able to fill it. Doesn't mean I can't use what's inside :D

This is my second tank I've found of this size, different companies though. The first tank I returned to the company and they gave me a full smaller tank for free since I was also there to buy an acetylene tank too. Hopefully that happens again with this tank :D

You can get it filled but federal law requires that only the company that owns the tank can fill it. Also all tanks are required to be tested every so many years (5...... I think?) to certify their safety.
If it has the company name stamped on it, and there is a facility nearby, then you're in luck.

Cool, I went ahead and put that in my "watch" list. I'm just waiting for the engine and trans for now, then I'll see if the high hump is even necessary. Since I've been junkyard diving the last few weeks I've had my eye out for one, but those trucks are hard to come by.

That might be the case. I'm only going off what happened with the first tank I found. That company said those size tanks were "rental only" or "exchange only" and they would have to confiscate it. But the worker was cool enough to give me a free tank for bringing the big one back to them. :waytogo:

Correct...if they own it, you would have to rent it......I pay rental every month on several tanks.
Years ago, you could rent for like 10 bucks a year. I pay nearly $50/mo for 2 oxygen, 1 large acetylene, 1..... 75/25 mix for mig, and 1 argon for tig. plus I own a few small tanks too.

Well, just put a deposit down on an engine and trans combo.

2005 GMC YukonXL
5.3 / 4L65e
88,xxx miles
everything plus the driveshaft, OBD2 port, and master cylinder w/prop valve I'm going to try on the Blazer.
$2,000

Looked good, sounded good. Started it and left it to idle for ~40 min while looking over the other potential engines. After coming back to it, it sounded good and engine temp was good. :dunno::woot::dunno::woot:

Then drove to an engine tuner that has a dyno. Seems to work mostly on LS and LT1 engines, had a lot of Corvettes, Firebirds, and Camaros around. He can do a dyno tune for me for $550. He can also supply and install a ZO6 cam/springs, rebuild the oil pump, and seal everything back up for an additional ~$1000.

All in all, with my day off, I put 200 miles on my S10 without getting farther than 78 miles from my house. One BIG ASS loop. lol

200 mi and 2-3k later

Although the z06 cam is nice, I think you would be much further ahead if you went with a after market cam and springs, you could create more power for cheaper and I'm sure you could do the work yourself.

just read through your build ,nice job so far, cant wait to see it finished:waytogo:

What he said^^^

Sure the Z06 cam is bigger than the truck cam but its tiny compared to anything the aftermarket has to offer. If you're going through the trouble of upgrading the cam and springs, the Z06 is almost pointless when you could get so much more out of an aftermarket with still very good street manners.

I guess what I'm looking for is just a small bump over stock. This truck will be daily driven, everywhere. So I'm looking for 1) driveability 2) gas mileage 3) fun. And in that order. Today, I'm leaning towards just putting the engine in, tuning, and driving it. I don't have the room to work on the engine myself, period, or a stand for that matter. The tuner guy said he would sell me "take offs" condition cam and springs for ~$150.

With more ratical cams comes fuel mileage loss and towing torque loss. Two things very important to me. But really, for now, i think I'll just put the engine in. Money saved will go to buying a bed for this thing.

You can fit a fair amount under the low hump tunnels. I crammed a nv4500 under mine with just a little help from the 5# hammer around the shift tower. I am not sure how a 4l65e compares in size but the nv4500 is a tall transmission.

F*** YEAH!!
Replaced the oil pressure sensor with the Dakota Digital unit using their supplied adapter, which was nice. Pulled the old oil pan off and put GM's "hot rod" pan (or whatever it's called) on. Came with new tray, dipstick, and pick up. Now the front crossmember is the lowest part, not the pan. Need a big box to send out my computer and wiring harness, get that rolling asap.

I've got a broken exhaust bolt, flush with the head. It came that way. Seems to be a problem with these things (or so I'm told) Now I have to somehow get the damn thing out before I can get my TBSS manifolds on. Once I can track down some factory TBSS exhaust flanges, it's going in for a system :D

Next is brake lines and fuel lines :doah:
