1968 c30 "Papa Smurf" prerunner build. links, beams, and turbo

Damn that looks good. You gonna run a hood or Dueling style?

Part of me thinks why hide all the awesomeness under a hood. The other part of me thinks it would look even better with a hood. Either way Its going to be wicked (and already is)

No time to build hood mounts. Plus shock mounts are too tall. So no hood it is. I'd like to mount hood again. But I want to do it right and put it back on hinges. So I don't want to hack it up to make it have a hood with pins for now. It will go on once I build hinges for it and it still works like a original hood.

Since I'm using ford d44 4wb spindles and hubs on my beams for now I've been needing to do something for a dust cover Made these tonight. Will add 2 set screws to hold caps in. Caps are also light press fit to keep sand and dirt out...is the goal. Have a groove for an o ring to go on as well

Check out the Porterbuilt hinges. They're firewall mounted. I think they fit right between your tubes.

When the time comes, install a factory hood and do a couple of "power bulges" to provide clearance for the upper shock mounts. THAT will be a subtle, but cool way to signal that there is something special going on under the hood......

.....as if the front suspension hanging out underneath didn't already betray that fact. :)

I was going to suggest portebuilt too. I have a set on my 71 and they work great. They would be pretty close to the outer tube though just looking at it. If nothing else steal the design and make a set that fit.

You can always put them inward a little, just changes where it mounts on the hood and will need more fabing

Got the truck loaded up today and over to Craig's house to check suspension and to weigh it in his scales. 30"s of useable travel in the rear. Total weight of the truck is 4069lbs. Just need to pull front shocks when I get home and bump out one more time to get beam travel numbers.
