1969 C10

Slow process of putting it back together.
The TV cable is easy with a carburetor, Bowtie Overdrives has gotten the geometry figured out. The lock-up can be done automatically in the valve body, without any electrical.
To put a 4L60E behind and engine with a carburetor requires a TPS, correct? And then the controller.
I have been running a 700R4 behind my big block with a Quadrajet for over 40K miles, it works fine, however I REALLY like the way the one in my '72 C10 works with the Bowtie kit. The key is getting the cable pivot closer to the throttle shaft than most old school "kick down " cables required.
You can get a TPS for less than half the cost of a Bowtie Overdrives bracket kit. Yes the controller is the added kicker, but depending on future plans it might not be. If @TJ1978 is planning on a 5.3L swap, the factory ECU can control it. There are also a few aftermarket EFI kits available that include transmission controllers or they can be added and I think as time goes on more will be available.

I had the same 700r4 in my 2 wheeling rigs for almost 10 years. It worked great in the crew cab with the factory TBI that had all the right connections for the TV cable. In the K5 that had all aftermarket engine stuff, it didn't work as well. But at that time I didn't have the money to spend on the Bowties Overdrives brackets.

How much profit? Everything is for sale

I got it for $3000. I won’t let it go for less than $6000

The only reason I’m dragging my feet. Is my friend gave me a deal on it, with me and my son in mind to put it together. Which was the plan her and her dad had but it fell through.

I have my Blazer listed and have a few offers. I could easily sell the K5, put that into the C10 and be done with it... I really like that C10. My family and the passenger capabilities have no bearing in the having the Blazer. The family couldn’t care less about driving around ina K5 let alone going off roading.

I like the K5 And the C10. I see more miles being driven in a running C10 than my already running K5

Sell K5 do C10 quickly. Have some extra $$ left over.

Keep K5 slowly plug away on C10, no extra $$

I can’t sell that C10. I would feel really shitty doing that to myself and her or her Dad. They gave me a deal on the grounds of a father son project. And yes it is mine to do what I want. It would still be a shit move made worse that I work with her.

If you and your family got no real love for the blazer I’d sell it and keep the 69.

I have love for it. The only reason I sold my 77’ square was to get a vehicle my wife and 3 kids could fit in. Welp, I have had the Blazer over 2 years and my wife has been in it once. I rarely drive it because I don’t have much time to go off-roading let alone know anyone local who does. Plus the exhaust volume irritates me, but that is fixable.

So I have a nice lifted K5 on 37’s that sits in my driveway, partly or mostly my own fault. But a C10 that is city worthy I see far more use in. If I knew or lived closer to people who went in the dirt I’d be more inclined to keep the K5 or be less likely to entertain offers on it.

Seems I have some thinking to do.

I’d like to keep both but honestly once that C10 is moving I see the K5 being driven even less, and what’s the point of a driveway prop? When i could get some $ and someone else can enjoy it... aaaaaaagggghhh

After reading all of this, I think the choice is obvious. Sell your swimmers and keep both
Hahahah... I’d like to keep both. But I think selling the K5 may win out. It makes the most practical sense and is most financially feasible. We’ll see. I have some thinking to do.

I don't understand this, what is this "practical sense " thing?

I have technically 6 trucks right now, I don't seem to get everything done on any of them, the number of trucks isn't the problem, correct??
 :haha:

In all honesty, I see your angle, and I can tell you that it's easy to have fun driving a C10 around town, the lifted K5 takes some planning to get the full enjoyment from it when life and the topographical area aren't super conducive to it.

Haha, the number isn’t the issue. It’s getting the funds to get the C10 moving.

Sell K5 have more than enough right now for the C10.
Keep K5 and the C10 will take along time to finish.

I’ve given myself a projected timeframe of 1 year and about $5-6K to get the C10 drivable.

C10 I can drive all over town, K5 is awesome but far less practical to putt around town.

Either way, I wouldn't sell the C10 if I was in your shoes. You just don't find many good deals on the generation truck. While the squarebody trucks are getting more popular, there are still a lot more of them around than the 67-72.

Agreed. And exactly why my neighbor is so hot to get it. I know what I have and I am very aware of the work needed to get it going, however. I understand his strategy to get me to sell, but this isn’t my first rodeo with these trucks. If he came up with the same pitch for the Blazer, I would have sold it instantly. I’ve been lookin for a SWB 67-72 for a while now.

I know it will cost $$$ to get it going. I know even in pile of “usable” parts a lot will need replacement. I know there will be “unforseen” expenses. Knowing all this, this is why I am really considering selling the K5. I can always get another K5, finding another affordable 67-72 SWB is far less likely.

Seems to me like you’ve made the decision, you just don’t want to admit it. I get the labor of love part but you’ve already said financially it makes more sense and you’ll get more use out of the c10 than the blazer. What’s the point of having it if you never use it and enjoy it?

I know. I was just posting to get some feedback from others.

Who knows maybe the Blazer won’t sell, offers don’t = sales... I won’t cry if I have to keep it.

Feeling like you do, pick a price you're comfortable selling the K5 for and don't accept anything less.
Man, starting it today to get the juices flowing because a guy is coming by to look at it. Damn, that truck is so loud, sounds good, makes me second guess selling but. Sometimes these trucks just need to move onto another person to be fully enjoyed.
