Slow process of putting it back together.
After messing with it for an hour. I guess I'll have to shim passenger side and notch that driver side bracket. The horns that bumper goes on are straight. Not sure why it fits a bit cock-eyed. I'm not spending hours upon hours to get it perfect. You can't even tell unless you're up close.

unless the bumper itself is a bit cock-eyed.

I seems like I have had to do some work on the braces quite often. Getting the driver side to clear the box takes a little minor fab work to make the necessary clearance. Otherwise it can squeak against the box.

And like I said before, these trucks were never show trucks from the factory, you are continuing to see what I mean.
I you want a clean driver, keep going as you are and the payday will be great!

Ha, yes! as the days pass I see that more and more. I just wanted to make sure I'm doing what I can before throwing in the towel or better yet, just leaving it how it left the factory.

the driver side brace is snug against the steering box. I may leave it or just cut a notch out for some wiggle room.

seems a bit dangerous having that bracket right there in the event of an accident.

Just read this entire thread. Maybe I missed it, but why are the two holes cut in the sides of the bed?

That’s aftermarket. Gotcha. Is all of that stuff gone?

Aftermarket? I wasn't aware dealer options were considered aftermarket.

No, the saddle tanks are gone and are not tmade in the aftermarket, junkyard only.

I have never found saddle tanks listed on a SPID list in the glove box, but that's just me. I have seen a few sets of those tanks with the aftermarket manufacturers tag on them. Dealers could definitely have installed them, or anyone. The list on the glove box door would be where the factory would say what they built the truck with, as well as the paper sheet on the bottom of the seat.

I refer to the thread I posted...
I looked at the one about saddle tanks. I didn't see where anyone had any proof with a SPID list. Just claims from what I read, but it was early this morning, so.

Not trying to bust your chops, just letting you know what I have found over the years. One of the guys who posted in that thread was referring to his '75, so that wasn't relevant to '67-'72 trucks.

I have deleted those saddle tanks off of one truck, it took some patience to weld in the patch panel while keeping the warpage under control. Gonna do another truck whenever we get to that point.

Little notch, still tight but just enough breathing room. Still isn't perfect as the passenger hugs a little tighter to front but I added some washers to bump it out a bit... good enough for now.

I'm not taking it that way, I always appreciate your input.

I saw the one post for 75' I disregarded that comment. The others seemed relevant and this feature is what my Dad remembers being an option but he didn't remember about the SPID signifying that add-on.

Regardless, whomever did it, it's part of this truck now. As that thread stated, this could have been done by the dealer or someone else. It is an interesting feature nonetheless.

For the life of me I cannot get these damn things to stay on. Seems they are supposed to set in the door panel. But it seems the panel is too wide to hold them.

Yeah, it is definitely not factory, but who cares? I was just curious what they were for, as they were not mentioned in the build thread.

They would be considered “day two”.

You mentioned several times about removing the HVAC, but I was happy to see it was still there. Are you going to add a compressor, and get it working? Functional AC would probably help the wife want to ride along. Especially in Arizona.

The AC is going to have to wait. On the suggestion of @6872xtc and others in various threads, if and when I put the AC back to working order, I'm going to try run a stock set-up.

The few threads in regards to aftermarket air such as vintage air or old air, I'm not convinced they're worth much more than a talking point to state how much $$& you've sunk into their vehicle. They don't seem all that great and me being in Arizona, I want air that will work sufficiently.

I seem to remember, but I can't swear to it, that there were little plastic tabs on the back side of those trim rings which held them into the door panels.
You will probably have to get creative with them, or replace them.

@6872xtc
Ha,
They're brand new and yes you are correct, but they won't "bite" into the door panel to stay. Maybe some double sided tape will suffice. Hahahaha

Good choice. I was happy when I got to the end of the thread and saw it was still there.
