1973 C10 "The Purple Truck"

Basic build
Maybe some of it because so many new pickups are short beds so that's what people are used to seeing anymore. I wouldn't mind a shortbed for a wheeling rig just because I think it's a good wheelbase, but for anything else I'm fine with the longbed. I don't feel like it looks bad at all.

Windows tinted.

A before picture for good measure.

I went darkest I could and still be legal. It looks darker than I expected, I think because it's a small cab with 3 of 4 windows tinted. If you look in the cab through the windshield it doesn't seem as dark.

Gonna take some getting used to, not in a bad way, just noticeably different feel sitting in the cab.

This weekend I did a little redneck engineering. Looking back on the thread, you may recall the C10 had an idle solenoid I thought was for AC, but was an anti-diesel solenoid meaning it's always on with the ignition. I had bumped the idle up to accommodate for the AC running, but on hotter days it was barely enough to help. I decided to rig up my own AC idle solenoid using the factory wiring. This is how I wired up the solenoid.

It's kinda hard to see the solenoid but I bolted it to the AC compressor bracket.

Like I said, it's a little redneck or "shade tree", but I kinda like doing it this way so I'm not hacking into the factory harness.

I'm at .045" accelerator pump nozzle. I think this will be the last change, plus I'm not even sure I can buy a bigger one. I'd have to use a drill bit to make my own.

The .042" was good, but occasionally I would get a very slight hesitation.

Went back down in size on the accelerator pump nozzle, now at .042" again. Felt like the bigger size was at best no improvement. I think it was a little boggy too. I feel like the .042" is a little snappier.

I'm hoping @6872xtc will come sniff my tailpipe and let me know for sure.

I did think it was funny I saw that post after my reply to yours here.

Maybe I should go with a BroFlow4 and @6872xtc can sniff my tailpipe until I get it set up right.

Okay, okay; I'll try to make that my last sniffing tailpipes comment.....

I really question if you can handle that much restraint...

I would think that could fry your ECM, or ignition module.. kinda like holding back a sneeze!

Oh wait, wrong build thread.

Need to replace ball joints. Looking at Moog. Also figured I should replace the bushings while I'm at it. Curious on thoughts of rubber vs. poly control arm bushings in 2wd street truck.

I have my 77 C10 getting new ball joints and poly bushings this week. I will let you know if it is an improvement or not, but the total parts cost is $500.

Cool.

I was partially asking about rubber vs. poly because I could just get an entire upper control arm and save the hassle of messing with the riveted ball joint. A Moog upper arm is $70 vs $29 for the ball joint (Summit's pricing). I'm thinking my time is worth almost as much as the price difference....

I did the Mevotech stuff on an 85 2wd. Same thing, complete arm was so cheap messing with it just wasn't worth it. I have heard their stuff comes from the moog line but I cannot verify that.

If you are pulling the entire arm, do the prebuilt arm. Worth every penny, but only if the bushings need it.

I'm paying a friend with a shop/lift to do the work at about the rate of the cost difference so it didn't matter much to me. I figured the poly bushings had a good enough reputation to go with them.

I love the poly's in my 2wd S10.

There are squeaky though.
