1973 C10 "The Purple Truck"

Basic build
I cut my exhaust kind of like you were saying, I cut it almost parallel with the rear bed side, but also angled back a little at the bottom at the same time...

I think just the plain aluminized exhaust pipe looks fine, tucked in, no shiny tips. But I do like the angle cut.

That's what I'm going to shoot for. I guess if I really f-it up, I can put a tip on it.


Where’s the burnout video?
Last time I tried to do a burnout the engine developed crickets. Besides that, if I'm going to do a burnout, I gotta improve the brakes. Right now it just pushes thru the brakes.

I must admit, I'm happier with the tailpipes installed. I know it still sounds good from outside the truck because when I roll down the window in a drive thru it's almost too loud to hear to order. But in the cab it's just a moderate noise which is what I want, I don't want a completely silent ride or I'd be looking at an electric vehicle.

I continue to argue with the PF4. Even after bumping the target idle up to 750, it still wants to die as soon as I shift it into gear. I've tried a dozen different changes I've read about with no help. I'm trying 1 last thing, and then I'm going to contact tech about it. I think a lot of it is due to my converter being too tight. When it shifts into gear, it hits pretty hard; especially with the higher target idle. Hopefully putting the 4l80e in will solve the issue because I'll include a new converter with an appropriate stall.

Yesterday I started getting a backfire on deceleration. A little searching pointed towards an exhaust leak. Since it just started in the middle of the drive I thought maybe something had loosened up, namely header bolts. However everything was right and tight. I decided maybe all of my tinkering with the PF4 trying to dial in the issues had kinda messed up the learning. I also read some people have had trouble with the map loading properly thru the wizard setup. Edelbrock tech has been recommending people reload the map thru the ECU settings, so I did that along with resetting the learning. So far it's been running fine on the drive home and back to work again.

My billet transmission in my diesel would hit real hard shifting to D but it was running a 1500rpm stall converter. I don’t know your stall speed but I could see it. Could be high line pressures also. Seen that before also.

No, it always shifts into Drive hard. Just harder when the target idle is higher. Lowering it doesn't help with the stalling issue. And I'm not talking about breaking ujoints hard, but when you put it in drive it's ready to go RIGHT NOW!

I have paperwork for a trans rebuild by the original owner 1999 and it doesn't say anything about the torque converter. It must be the original. It has nice firm shifts, but not like it has a super special shift kit or anything.

I do think something is lacking if the new engine wont do a burnout. Maybe your converter is way too tight.

It was in the exhaust. I would have freaked the hell out if it came thru the intake.

The brakes are scary bad. My wife jumped drove it the other day and when she came back the first thing she said was "you've GOT TO get those brakes fixed!" The time I tried to do a burnout, it just pushed thru the brakes no matter how hard I pushed on the pedal. Maybe I need to get out the wheel chocks.
