1973 K10 Build

That's always what I've thought but the challenge is not knowing what the PO put in the block. When I first got the truck initial was set to 30+! The engine is defo cammed ( no known specs of course). Still try going down to 8-10?

Is your vacuum advance unplugged when you're checking your timing?

Yessir. Starting to notice some valve train noise on one side of the engine as well...

In that case it wouldn't hurt to pull the valve covers and check the valve lash.

As for your timing, with a cam set your total timing and not worry about the initial. You still want around 34-36 degrees total. Set that and then see where your initial timing is. Depending on how much cam you have you might be surprised at the initial timing number.

Found my K10 on CL about a month ago. Been dealing with the little "fix-it" issues as they arise, looking forward to building it up into a badass expedition & adventure rig as time goes on.

They day I brought her home:

Has a nice Alu-headed 350:

Couldn't be orange without a flat black hood and racing stripe:

Current issues I'm dealing with:

Annoying hood gap at the rear with the hood riding high above the cowl. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

The truck is burning up starters like crazy. About to go through my second one since I've owned it. Underhood temps are high and with the headers basically touching the starter I think I'm frying the solenoid. Starter wrap makes no difference, getting ready to wrap the headers when I replace this starter in the near future. Any ideas?

Thanks for looking!

was re reading the thread and I'm diggin the Black hood on base Orange! Solid command of the Captain Morgan stance as well!

Looks good! Yeah take as many more pics as you want. Even some of how it's mounted would be awesome. How was it to install, pretty easy? Just trim a little off the horns and drill a few holes? Does it seem like it will be pretty strong how it's mounted?

Sorry for all the questions, you're the only one I know of that has done it. :)

Defo have more pics! Will get them up ASAP when I'm not on wifi in the sky.

Unfortunately the K10 is SOLD. Had a buddy at work who really wanted a project truck to work on with his son and we were able to work out a good deal. I'm getting ready to possibly relocate here in SD so having 4 cars wasn't really conducive to that process lol.

On an unrelated note, have already started planning my next project! Looking for an M1009 this time around. If anyone has a good lead on an unmolested one please let me know!
