1973 K10 : Chloe

1973 K10 offroad build
Paint is drying on this overcast November day.
Got the crossmember all welded up.
Design = OK
Materials = OK
Execution = OK
End result = OK
This thing has kicked my ass for too long now. Between crappy weather, and just not feeling it on weekends and after work. It's taken close to 6 weeks to get this done.
I am glad.

Transfer cases crossmember is in!
I was super afraid of it warping as I welded it. I spent a ton of time and effort to not let it get heated up. That paid off in spades, as it just bolts right up, no pulling the frame, no fighting to align bolt holes. It just bolts right into place.

Gonna need to figure out how to fit the pulley around the frame.
May have to trim the frame, then reinforce around it.

This build-a-bracket shit has to stop! Due circumstances beyond my control, I've had to remake this bracket to hold the power steering pump, err, I mean Hydraulic pump. The pulley would have hit the mounting bolts, I'm not out of the woods yet, as I've still got to get it mounted to the pump, which has very little clearance for the nuts to spin on.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

OK, I'm finally over the Hydraulic pump thing. I'm tired of getting my ass kicked by it.
I just ordered a new PS pump and pulley for the 8.1, it'll just be easier to find parts for and work on of it ever breaks.
Hopefully, it puts out enough volume for the Full Hydro set up I've got planned.
As a side note, now I can build the fire wood splitter I've always thought about.

I braved the cold and ice, and windchill for that matter and installed the power steering pump and pulley. Like I said earlier, I hope I can get it to work with a full hydro steering system, because that's what I'm doing.
Clears the frame just fine, doesn't look like it, but, it's good. Now to locate a 99 inch, 6 rib serpentine belt...

I want to tell the story of my 14 bolt locker.
So, I hunt around online, figuring, it's a hunk of steel, they're all the same, so find the least expensive one and buy it.
ERRRRR! Wrong!
Not only was the place super slow(read: over 21 days and a threat to cancel the order) to get the thing shipped, they go as cheaply as possible. A week and half from MA to UT!?
FAWKING RETARDS!
Then, Brown Santa pulls this shit...

Could you post a few more pics of your doubler & crossmember? This is exactly what I've been figuring in my head for mine. I'm particularly curious to see the area around the front driveline and how close the crossmember comes to it.

THanks!

I'd also like to use the same rubber bushings you have there if you've got a part number......?

The rubber bushings are from DIY4X its called a fabrication bushing. 1.5 OD. I just turned them on end, added a 1.75 diameter flat washer to spread the love.

I manufactured a bracket to hold the engine management computer and associated electrics. I've been dreading this part for a long time because I didn't know what it was going to take to get it done. Well, it's almost done, I want to attach a piece of rubber between the ECM and the bracket. Then it will be done.

I bought a few throttle cable parts of the Amazon. None of it was GM specific. I finally got it all fabbed together. I used the original "truck end" of the original 73 throttle cable. Combined with the universal cable I bought.
Also got the auxiliary transmission cooler with fan, plus I got the thermostat to go with it.
