1973 K10 : Chloe

1973 K10 offroad build
Did you eat the potato you used to take those picture when you were done?

I'm gonna have to go back through this thread, and see what you have to go with those tires.

Martin

Last tire is mounted, with its beadlock installed.
Tomorrow, I need to do a bit of engine work. Got to do a rocker arm adjustment. I caught myself a while back thinking about how I rushed through the upper end of the engine. I think I better go back and double check my rocker arm adjustment. You know, for piece of mind.

So, I just spent the day, first few hours checking the question mark in my mind, were the rocker arm adjustments done completely? Per Alldata, torqued to 26 ft-lbs. With the long pushrods being installed on the exhaust valves, the short pushrods on the intake valves. Then reinstalled the valve covers.
Thinking I hadn't gotten enough accomplished, I painted up the Off-Road Design Engine crossmember. Then started the install.
I was able to get two bolts started on the bottom end of the engine mounts. However, none of the other bolt holes were even close.

My thoughts on 50 year old frames and the 97° heat?
Yeah, they both suck.
I finally was able to get the remaining bolt holes close enough get bolts run in them. But, none of the actual frame rail bolts line up, at all. I'm going have to drill them all. Tomorrow...

Same issue I had, bent frame, great crossmember, nothing really lined up. Got the frame to move enough to get it to fit but it was a pain, like a two day pain.

Shout out to OFF-ROAD DESIGN!
The engine cross-member is in 100% it was a giant PITA!
The cross-member itself is perfect, as always, it's the 50 year old frame, broke almost in half, pulled back in with a ratchet strap, welded 5 different ways from Sunday.
Had to drill the frame for 60% of the holes(8 out of 12 bolt holes) had to be Drilled. Not just using an alignment bar.
It's done and I'm sure has strengthened that area of the frame considerably. There is about 3/8'ths of an inch clearance between the cross-member and the 8.1litre oil pan.
On to the next piece.

Brown Santa showed up.
Brought the NP205, front output shaft, 10 spline 1410 yoke and enough 1410 straps and bolts for all the driveshafts.

Front and rear 1410 driveshaft yokes on the NP205. I was fortunate enough to have a few spare NP205 front output seals that are the correct size for the 1410 yoke. Completely different size than the original 1350 yoke seal.

Screw this thing and it's shitty spot welds. Mel says I should come in as it's going to be 105° today. I already drank 2 Gatorades and 4 bottle of water. Am using a spray bottle to cool myself in between bouts of cutting drilling and beating

I got plenty of sharp drill bits. They drill out easily. Problem is, I'm finding them grouped together. 4 or 5 all in a 1 inch square area, then nothing for 2 inches.
When they're that close together, you end up with a big hole where you drilled all of them. The metal is so rusty, that you can't see them. I have to rely on the metal not separating to find them. I think this may have been repaired once before. Helen Keller then did the spot welding.

I found this laminated wiring diagram for the 73. It is very basic, and has no provisions for the fully electronic 496 residing in Chloe, right now.
But, it's a start, and easy to read. I can add relays where I needed
Scan that and put it up for the rest of to steal thank you very much.

How are you liking the relay boxes ? I have the same ones. The first one I got the cover lock tabs broke before I even used it. Figure the second one I'll be more gentle.

Brown Santa showed up quite a while ago(several months ago) I've just been preoccupied with
(Insert weak shit here). (Oh, and by the way **** lawyers, they all belong on the bottom of the ocean)
Anyway, Brown Santa, Thanks Kert and your crew at DIY4X.
Stuff is top notch, like always!
