1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
it's all good and a lot easier to yank out without a t-case and another driveshaft to remove :D

I was checking the fluid again this morning in the daylight and noticed the fluid was fresh red in color but there was a lot of greyish/black fine material on the dipstick and it smells burnt. Probably clutch and or converter material so it all makes sense that the trans is slipping.

So what's the plan? Rebuild or different route?

All kinds of dumb ideas running through my head but I probably should reach out to my trans guy and have him go through it. Or I could roll the dice on a CL trans for cheap and hope for the best.

I've also been browsing CL squares for a K10 or K20 donor chassis to swap this presmog cab onto. Last night I ran across a K20 with complete drivetrain (350/sm465/np205) that someone used as a sheet metal donor truck since the truck had a bunch of registration back fee's. I'm pretty sure the wife would lose her shit if I brought another truck home though :D

So you want another 4x4?

6cyl truck? He's got it listed as a 82 C20, not sure if the grille was swapped or the year is off. Looking online the 6cyl was an option on a 82 K20, I assume the 4spd would need a different bell housing for the sbc? It has a FF 14b rear axle and lockouts on the front axle. It's either a 203 or 205 t-case, can't tell.

Nope the 292 and 250 use the same old GM bellhousing. My first truck was an 81 C10 with a 292 and 3 on the tree, I swapped in a 327 without changing a thing. And if it’s a 203 it’d be a swap since they didn’t make it into the 80’s.

EDIT- Although he’s probably wrong on the year due to the grill and the cab not having the 80’s hood hinge pockets.

Im not a 2wd guy so I say go for it! I also thought a stockish K20 4 speed would be fun, then I found an NV4500 and couldn’t leave well enough alone

good point on the hinge pockets, forgot about that.

interior shot, not sure if you can tell the 205/203 shifters apart from the side

There’s a guy on here looking for the engine crossmember for a straight 6 4x4.... Rare!
But I can’t think of his name?

The 465/203 was a 1 year option in 74 I think.
I doubt it is and you said the axles have lock outs so it 's a 205.
I believe the 203 shifter is leaning more forward anyway.
If he has this truck with 82 title someone swapped vins.
