1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
Looks good on paper anyway :dunno: O'reilly's has the plate so I'll pick that up and see how it responds tonight. I'll probably grab some wires and plugs while I'm there.
Are you against using the quadrajet? Yeah the adapter will work but I don't think it will live up to it's full potential of matching the intake to the carb bore.

Only down side to the theory is it doesn't really explain the plugs. I'm just going with my gut here - but it is a vast resource - a vacuum leak would tend to make it run on the lean side because you're getting more air in. The plug you showed looked like it was over-rich. Obviously either way a vacuum leak is a problem.

It's really too bad @6872xtc can't be there to sniff your pipes and help get it dialed in.

I thought it was his other half @Bent77 that smelled the pipes?

It ran like shit with the Q-Jet on it, maybe because it's an 850 cfm off a BBC :dunno: Either way I'm just swapping to another carb with issues when I can spend $11 on this plate and see how the edelcrap does.

Everything I've read says the vacuum leak will cause a rich condition with this particular carb. Maybe it has something to do with the metering rod theory that @6872xtc spoke about when there's a lack of vacuum? Either way I need this plate so I can at least rule that out.

Oh yeah, if the vacuum can't hold enough to overcome spring pressure it would run on the rich step.

$11 is worth it to see what it does, I have spent more money to test a theory before.

Anyway, I would expect something 15”hg or more. If not there’s something that sucks

At least you goofballs are having some fun while I was working on a mixer on the side of the road...

And my sniffer has been around mechanics and truck drivers for decades and it helps me know when sh*t ain't proper!! It also lets me know when the bull crap distributors show up too!!!
@Bent77 @mrk5 @Babaganoosh

I'll check that tonight after a fit a diaper under Sancho's oil spewing ass.

Best tool I ever bought for my carbed engine was a vacuum gauge, my 350 had a 305 balancer so the timing mark was off. I adjusted the carb and timing with it and gained 4 inches of vac and it ran so much better.

Hopefully it's not spewing oil because the main bearings are so shot the seal can't hold the oil pressure.

They're a pretty handy tool for sure.

easy there, no clanking on this one (yet at least).

Just wow...

impressive eh?

Yes, I thought the engine was worn out and tired. After tuning it was able to do burnouts. The only problem was I couldn't keep my foot out of it anymore and got 7MPG

WHOOPS! I forgot to put a smilie in there!!

I hope that you guys know that I wasn't offended, just trying to keep up with the crowd!
 :D

I will go add a smilie!
I found it pretty hilarious, and had to re read it again to make sure it was still funny.

I've done a burnout with this but it was pretty weak and it stumbled/coughed out of the carb. Pretty lame and ghey :1zhelp:

I figured it was a sarcastic jab and I laughed :dunno:

I got around 13 at 800 rpms. Runs a lot better with the adapter plate on and new plugs. When I blip the throttle from idle it pops out of the carb. It was a little too late to keep messing with it so I’ll play with it more later.
