Yesterday was beautiful outside, so I spent a decent part of the day outside messing with this truck.
So I narrowed most of the issues down to the column is a piece of junk. Ignition switch is bad, internal tumbler is broke, and the steering wheel is massively loose. I eventually got power inside, but still nothing at the ignition switch for the starter.
I crawled under the truck to see if I could jump the starter, and found this fuel pump wired in, and it was working. Checked the carb and I had fuel to the carb, so I knew the fuel system was working fine.
I went ahead and jumped the starter and got the truck to turn over a bunch, but no fire.
I then noticed a large trans fluid leak coming from a cooler line that was horribly dry rotten.
Replaced the line with some steel braided stuff I had laying around.
Went back to cranking, but still no fire. Narrowed it down to no spark. I have power at the distributor but nothing down at the plug. Being HEI it could be cap, rotor, or module. So that’s where I left off last night.
I have the afternoon off today, so I’m going to swap the column and try to get it cranking from the key. Then move forward with the spark issue.
