1975 C30 Scottsdale “The Ugly Buffalo”- Out to pasture.

I have no idea yet lol
Looks good. At least it's not corrosion and just stuff on top.
Yep, just got another wheel cleaned up on lunch today. Going to be a good option for now!

Shame about the white letters not being out!

Keeping the big block, right?

Martin
I’m not sold on white letters on every truck just yet.

And yes, this is staying big block.

I hope you're doing both inside and outside of those rims! Can't have them looking like crap if you gotta rotate them. :haha:
Yep! The inside of the fronts is absolutely horrible. Not sure if I can save them without sanding. The other side of the rears is just like the rest.

Got power to the lights tonight. Fuse able link was burnt from the starter. Still don’t have power inside. Will start diag tomorrow morning and see what I can find. Hope to at least hear it run tomorrow. I have an extra column if it turns out I need it.

Yesterday was beautiful outside, so I spent a decent part of the day outside messing with this truck.

So I narrowed most of the issues down to the column is a piece of junk. Ignition switch is bad, internal tumbler is broke, and the steering wheel is massively loose. I eventually got power inside, but still nothing at the ignition switch for the starter.

I crawled under the truck to see if I could jump the starter, and found this fuel pump wired in, and it was working. Checked the carb and I had fuel to the carb, so I knew the fuel system was working fine.

I went ahead and jumped the starter and got the truck to turn over a bunch, but no fire.
I then noticed a large trans fluid leak coming from a cooler line that was horribly dry rotten.

Replaced the line with some steel braided stuff I had laying around.

Went back to cranking, but still no fire. Narrowed it down to no spark. I have power at the distributor but nothing down at the plug. Being HEI it could be cap, rotor, or module. So that’s where I left off last night.

I have the afternoon off today, so I’m going to swap the column and try to get it cranking from the key. Then move forward with the spark issue.

It runs!!! Terrible exhaust leak, and a few other things, but it reliably starts up now.

Ended up replacing the ignition control module. It took a few minutes to smooth out the idle after sitting for however long it did. Will definitely need some tune up work.

Briefly checked forward and reverse gears and they at least engaged.

Now to finish installing the steering wheel and horn assembly, then back it off the trailer.

So question, what would possibly make an ignition control module go bad after just a few runs?

Truck ran decent that night, then the next day at lunch I have zero spark again.

Does it have good contact with the distributor? Good ground through everything? Loose terminals?

I’m going to check everything over this afternoon and see. It appeared that everything was good, but I’m going to get a replacement and then see what the connections look like.
Your cool old C30 Dually looks like one of those "will it run" trucks you see on YouTube.
He originally said it was the fuel pump, so we decided just to trailer it. But had I seen that auxiliary fuel pump we probably would have tried to start it there.

That fuel pump will not run it down the road. Had the same one on the Fugly Duckling. Allows it to idle, but will not keep the bowl full. Needs 8 PSI. And move the fuel line from in between the water pump and timing cover.

Not sure why it would have an electric fuel pump at all?

Martin
Exactly! This will stay on just to move it off the trailer once it’s running. There is no reason to not replace the factory pump and move on. More money and work involved instead of just replacing the bad factory unit. Doesn’t make sense to me as to why they did it.
