1976 C-10 Stepside Shortbox - Beagle's Build -496/Turbo 400 build

So I recently received a rather large bonus at work and decided that I wanted to buy myself something fun (as if I don't do that enough as it is). My company has bonuses every quarter, sometimes they are size-able. My previous bonuses have went to bills.
One thing I have been wanting to do was get a C-10 short box. I always wanted to do "Big bother - Little brother" pair of trucks. Originally I wanted the C-10 to be the same with a 91 clip and stepside box, same color and such. As I have thought about it more I decided it would be more fun to have "little brother" not an exact copy of my 79. So once I knew what my bonus was going to be, the search was on for a C-10. I then decided it had to be older then 80.
So 80 and older and short box have been my criteria.

The search was on.

I searched for about a month before I finally hashed out a deal and this followed me home.

image.jpg It ended up being a 76 stepside shortbox with a 350/350 combo. Already lowered with a 4/6 kit. (Saves me from doing it) Pretty clean for the most part, runs and drives good. Mostly little things to fix right now. Standard stuff on a 39 year old truck. Has headers and side exit exhaust under the steps. Eddy carb.

I will be building this slightly over the summer to get a few things up to snuff. For the most part it will just be a driver for now, then later it will get a bit more serious.

Obviously it has a cowl hood and chevy orange/hugger orange? racing strips on the hood and a billet grill... Not exactly my taste. But I don't hate it enough to bother changing it right now. I would have done the cowl hood, but racing stripes belong on cars.... But I can't lie that the visual impact of the orange strips didn't make dislike the truck in any way.

Anyway.... Welcome to my new autobot...

image.jpg So I finally can say I did something photo worthy. The old wheels had to go...didn't care for them at all. And the tires were SHOT!

Note; I see those are awfully dark, I will replace them with brighter photos when I get some time.

Mostly just been driving this figuring out my vision for the build. Long term plans include overdrive and EFI. Maybe lower the back a bit more. Maybe some other things but the body and such wont change much from this.

What a blast to scoot around in this old girl. It's been worth every penny so far.

I love how theres a group of us that are all running with a 2wd street truck aside from our 4wd project lol.

**** I havent even owned a square body in 4ish years lol.

cant wait to get my 2wd done . build thread link in sig line .

fyi nice ride you picked up . :waytogo:

Haha, your two builds along with K85 octane's '68 build were some of the reasons why I pulled the trigger on this. I have been wanting to do this for a while. Reading your guys builds along with lurking on 67-72chevytrucks had me daydreaming about a street truck.

I picked up the truck for $3,500 and have roughly $1,500 in tires and wheels, probably another 2-3 hundred in miscellaneous parts already.
In lots of of way I would much rather have stuck that into the '79 but I felt like I am in a good enough position overall to be able to afford the extra truck at this time.

Gotta subscribe for another white stepside :waytogo:

Haha...don't expect a lighting fast build, going to spend more time driving this instead of building, which seems to be my problem with my other stepper.

Being in the same state should help.

image.jpg Caught a photo of Chevy C10 doing truck like things. Hauling my "new to me" 40 plus year old table saw. Sorry for the dark pics, it been raining every day here in for like three plus weeks now...

that's a sweet ride for 5k in it:waytogo: very nice looking. Seeing the 2wd threads on here is what kinda leaned me towards mine also. I wish I could have done a square, but extended cabs are hard to build and still don't look right:rolleyes: I'll watch all you guy's builds to make up for it:waytogo:

Yep, so far it's been fun, the truck does have a lot of little things that need fixed door bushings, someone jacked the radio and F*** up the dash, and the passenger side door has a mark for them getting in.
The box has some seen some use, (no real big dents) wood bed needs replaced badly. Has typical sbc engine leaks, and the T350 is pretty greasy to.

Like I said in the first posts, typical stuff for a 39 yr old truck.
Overall, since I am from the rust belt (you most likely know where Rockford, Il is), I feel like I did OK on it for the price. I bet I could turn it for a profit in a heartbeat back in the flatland.

image.jpg Had the day off from work for the holiday. Did a bunch of stuff non-note worthy. And then added a 5" tach with shift light, because of course, it's totally needed for the street...

Totally! But it was free to put in, if you will, I had bought it years ago. So since it was just sitting around..

Put it in a car show tonight, was a fundraiser for a buddies daughter's school.
About 28-30 cars or so and I placed 6th and won a 50$ gift certificate for a sandblasting and painting company!:woot:
