1976 C-10 Stepside Shortbox - Beagle's Build

Damn. That will make it harder. Only willing to look for so long before I move forward.

The roller lifters with link bars are $400 for new ones that easily reach 6000 RPM. New roller lifters for the dogbones are about 2 bills, without the dog bones or retainers. So spending too much time or money trying to save $200 or less probably isn't worth it. The cam button is $10, I suppose that adds a little, but the dog bones and cam retainer plate are each more than that if you don't have them with the new block.

Heaths got a point. Even guys with roller blocks switch to dog bones because its just a more stout design from twisting a lifter at higher RPMs.

Just like how I have trust issues with the plastic guides in an LS... First time breaking it down I said "really? Thats whats keeping my cam from wiping?"

Damn it. My membership expired. Guess the aluminum heads and roller set up is out. 25 smackeroos is going to hurt.

There is an old article in Hot Rod magazine from October 1990 about grunt motors. Had some really good points.

Same month they also did an article about called low-fat rat. Impasto racing builds rat motors making well over 500 hp with stock parts that nobody else wants.

Hate to hijack the hijacking, but if you're talking serious BBC power & torque figures here, what drivetrain are you going to run behind it? I assume you're not gonna drop 575 HP into a 1/2-ton rear end. Right?

Actually, a factory 12 bolt will hold 500 horse. After the drivetrain loss I'll be fine to start... But if you read back I may or may not have mentioned a 9".....and I'll probably dump a 400 in her to get it by for while. But the long term plan is three pedals.

Spent some time pondering transmissions. Feiburgers muscle truck runs a turbo 400 with a gear vendors overdrive on the back. Which is cool, I'm but not convinced that's worth it.
I really wouldn't mind going 4l80E right out of the hole.
But I am not sure about cost since you guys have convinced me to run a roller cam. What are your thoughts @Greg Ducato ?? PM sent.

I thought you wanted a manual?

I might be getting my threads mixed up too.

I do. But that's down the road. Need to find a parts trucks or a hydro setup. Long term I want a hydro 6 speed. Don't want to go through the hassle and expense at this time.

Small amount of progress tonight. Started with this mess.IMG_20160129_212050906-1280x720.jpg

One 454 on the hook...
Machine shop tomorrow...:woot:

Why waste money on an auto setup especially the cost of a gear vendors or 4L80E when you'll just pull it and put in a manual. Do it once do it right
