1977 K10 Build Thread

quick question, is there anyway i can tell if my heads are square port or round port without removing the exhaust manifold to look? the reason i ask is cause i just bought a set of headers and i need to know which gaskets to get but the trucks in my neighbors driveway and i can't leave it sit there too much longer
buy the gaskets that go with the header. did you get square, round or d port headers?

another chapter in the life of my 77 K10. i found a fiberglass cowl induction hood on craigslist for $150 that i might pick up but im wondering what the pros and cons are of running a fiberglass hood. i know you have to remove the springs and use a hood prop rod but is there anything else i should know?

does anybody know how the horn is wired? i have a yellow wire coming up out of the column and a dark green wire as my power wire at the horn. it seems that im not getting power from the dark green wire though. what could be the cause?

When you hit the horn do you hear the relay click? If so check and see if you get voltage at the horn. if so, bad horn. If not look for a bad wire. If no clicking check fuses, then check the contacts in the steering wheel.

i should have done the shackle flip in the first place!

i bought a set of kerts UDSR shackles because i got a really good deal on a 6" all spring superlift lift kit and i decided i didn't want to do a shackle flip. now i am running into problems with the shackle hitting the mount because of the shackles 3/8 side plates. today i tried to connect the rear spring eye to the shackle and it seems like the spring is too short because the shackle will not go forward any further because its contacting the mount. my two options to remove some material from the shackle side plates or remove some material from the shackle mounts. what do you guys think? i'll take some pictures in the morning and show you were i am talking about. im also having problems with my u-bolts not being long enough. im only running a 6" superlift leaf spring with the degree shim and a zero rate and when i tighten the nuts down there are not threads showing at the top of the u-bolt like there should be. should i have bought longer u-bolts than the ones i bought from ruffstuff or what?

has anybody ever ran kerts UDSR shackles without doing a shackle flip? id like to know what everyone thinks i should do. should i take the metal off of the shackle or off of the shackle mount so the shackle can swing forward further to connect to the spring?

do you have a 14bff that has the fins all over the housing? if not it's an older one, so get ones for a 1978 or so. they may be all the same.

there's a mud bog this sunday up by me. you otta bring your truck.

what do you mean by fins on the housing? i wish i could bring my truck out, its sitting in my neighbors driveway torn apart and uninspected. im in the middle of installing headers and i have no brakes or rear suspension right now. one day i got in the truck to move it and the pedal went to the floor and i looked at the left rear wheel and fluid was leaking out between the backing plate and the drum but it was dry around the hard line on the axle going into the wheel cylinder. im also waiting on new u bolts from dan at ruff stuff. wheres the mud bog at? id like to come out just to spectate.

i doubt they swap over, 205 to 203.

that really isn't a kit. that is the way they come factory.. every 203 i have seen has a yoke on rear output.

for a 205 they put slip yokes and yokes on them. that really isn't a "kit" either, just find a 205 that has a yoke output and swap them.

slip yoke eliminator kits are for like 241's and 208's and jeeps that never came from the factory with a rear output yoke.

would the connector for the reverse lamp switch on the tranny on a th350 be the same as an sm465? there are two wires (a green and a blue) that run on from the steering column (on automatics) down to the reverse lamp switch on the tranny, but does it run from the steering column on a manual tranny as well and are the connectors the same?

Steering Shaft Install

theres a little tab that sticks up off of the steering shaft coming out of the steering box, i was wondering if i need that to act as a limiter for the steering shaft or if i can just hack it off cause its causing the shaft to bind up and not move like it should. btw its a borgeson double u joint style shaft. its the area in red i circled in the pics.

that's odd. i've never seen one like that before. is there a hole on the shaft that it goes into?

the steering box shaft that its coming out of or the steering shaft im installing from borgeson. theres no hole in the shaft for it to set in and the tab that i have circled is part of the steering shaft in the box. i think im just going to cut it off and grind it flush because its in my way
