1977 K5 "Sparty On"

Decided I wanted to move the tranny cooler from in front of the radiator to the firewall to get a little bit more flow to the radiator so.....
Here's the old location....

Tore the fan off to clean it & get it in a location I like...

Had to take the recinlty mounted new fuel regulator back off, thinking right in that area for the cooler....

Not trying to be a jerk but there are not many worse places to put a cooler. Very little chance for air flow.

That has got to be one of the warmest places in the engine bay.

I think that cooler will be ineffective right there even with the fan

We shall see I guess....:burnout:

Once again not trying to be a jerk but I know. I have mounted coolers back there mostly guys who run mud. If you have your hood cut so it's actually cowl induction it will help but it really does reduce the effectiveness.

Mount the cooler at least 3" off the firewall if you can. Thats the distance I found to be most effective

Yes it's a functioning cowl, kinda pointless to do all that work if it doesn't have a use. It'll be at least 3" off the firewall due to the electric fan being behind the cooler. I have a buddy that runs his cooler inside the cab of his ranger same setup as mine will be w/o any issue. But if it doesn't work I'll just relocate it back to in front of the radiator.....

It will still work. We just saw tranny temps on average 20° higher than they had been.

It does keep the mud out though

IMHO its more of a gauge you moniter and look for spikes rather than something you really take note of the temp

Glad to see you come over to ck5.

Just put a small fan on that cooler...

Well upon further review & 1hr of work....not gonna work on the firewall. I put the ignition box & super coil in the only spot it could go on the inside of the firewall. So back to we're it was!!! :shame:

Must have re-financed your house for that build.

No not really, buy new/used parts & sell the old parts off it. Payed $850 for 60/14 combo & sold my 44/14 combo for $550....so for $300 I had a Dana 60. Just deals like that really got me a lot of stuff for fairly cheap.

Got the cooler bracket out yesterday and figured out where I wanna put the new PS cooler I believe.....

Just make sure your reservoir is higher than the cooler or you will have issues with air/ bleeding. Ask me how I know.
