1978 K5 LS/NV4500

Haven’t done a whole lot to this thing lately. Couple small things. I love driving it and I do a lot.

Had to borrow a trailer from a friend who had a hangar at his house. Had to snap a photo of course. If you follow me on IG you’ve probably seen all of these photos already.

Said trailer.

Made it to a few cars and coffee gatherings.

Went on a cruise early on in the year.

I always thought the rear sat a little to high where the blazer had a rake. So I took a leaf out. I think it sits better.

The mirror mount holes have always needed addressed and two are cracked from I’m guessing being loose over the years. I got a riv nut kit and decided to fix it best as I can without doing body work. It should hold good for now. Looks much better and is a lot more firm.

Nothing really to update. It hasn’t moved since early December. I haven’t really touched it since then besides starting it once. Almost drove it to work today but I’m afraid the city is going to salt the roads tonight in preparation for an alleged blizzard tomorrow.

Might try to get a stereo installed this spring/summer.

Need to rebuild the 208 or find a replacement. Mine howls and leaks and the tail housing is cracked.

I kind of want to put the hard top back on it as well but it is kind of rough.

Got a ‘70s Coleman Cooler to match it.

Why not upgrade to a 241? Then you have sye option down the line if you want to

Expensive. Hard to find. Am I really going to see any benefit over a 208 for a street driven rig? Even a 32 spline 208 is getting hard to find for a reasonable price.

Will a 241 fit in place of a 208? Direct swap with shifter linkage?

Yep, everything is direct swap between 208/241.

The 241 has a better rear output seal. Not sure ive ever seen a leaky 241, but my 208’s have always had a slight drip even after a new seal.

The better output seal definitely has me interested. Will keep an eye out. The transfer case is the only thing left that leaks on my blazer and I hate it.

I can tell you all that I have witnessed a 208 spend so many years running a big bunch of the trails in Moab, without problems for a decade or so. With both axles locked.
I wouldn't be afraid to use one if I didn't have another option in hand.
Sure, a 241 is built a little better, but harder to find, usually.

Only time my 208 leaked was when it had a slip yoke and only if it sat for a while. Afterwards I’ve never had an issue.

I started refinishing the hardtop.

Got the windows out, power washed, and sanded with 120. This thing was in kind of rough shape to be honest.

White tinted raptor liner. Good product for sure but was not a fun process. Feet kept sticking to the plastic and the hose kept hitting the wet paint. What a pain in the ass.

IMG_2742.jpeg

It turned out ok. It’s better than it was.

Painted the inside with spray paint.

Would you recommend it? Mine needs refinished and I'm considering Flex Seal spray.

Yes I definitely would. The kit comes with everything needed for $230 on eBay.

It looks way better. It would be damn near perfect if I hadn’t had my feet and the hose sticking to the plastic. Which made me drag the plastic and hose on the wet paint. :doah:
