1979 Suburban with blazer removable top

Alright havent worked on the burb in a while. Had to go back to work for 2 weeks and be only working on the house. Just have my yard hydroseeded in a few days and then hopefully next week i will be back on vacation for 3 weeks just to work on th eburb and finish it up. Got my al's liner in the mail and need to finished up the insides of the bed so i can spray the full interior. I bought 4 gallons so that should do the whole thing. Almost got all the bondo done. Need to finish scuffing the jambs and I will primer them. Im gonna get the whole body in primer, spray the al's liner and then wet sand, and finish up the finish color coat. Also one last ditch effort to fix my weird pinging im getting with the new motot. I believe my distributor spring are to light and advencing the timing to fast to much so i bought a tuning kit of heavier spring. Should have them in this weekend. More pictures to come.

Hey been working my butt off getting ready to move in 2 weeks and need to finish the burban up for winter. Did a quikie job on the bed side to get them in liner. didnt even grind any of the weld just put some seam sealer on them after cleaning and sanding the bed. Think I may redo them next summer to clean them up. Got most of the body in primer. Im gonna get all the jams painted in my garage and also the window frame so I can get a windshield installed and then finish the block sanding off. I got a guy who rent me his booth for cheap only a couple blocks away from my house. I have been doing all the priming in my garage though. I called the california epa and they said its legal for me to spray voc compliant paints in my garage for personal use only. No laws in my city against its either. So why not. I also found a killer deal at the junk yard. A suburban with brand new upholstery on all 3 rows of seats. Scored them for $134. I will post ome pictures of the body in a few days. I decided to just spray the fiberglass top with sand colored enamel ace hardware tractor paint. I sprayed my honda with white tractor paint from there and that stuff actually hold up pretty good. I didnt use and primer either.

Can you take pics of your intersection point of where the blazer met the suburban?

I am interested in how you handled the middle seat latches and the passenger door areas as well.

Well I getto rigged it. My plan for next year is to just make new inner bedsides and weld them in from the bottom of the bedrail to the bedfloor/wheeltub. But what I did for now was run a saw along the wheel tub and bed side cutting off the existing suburban bed side. I then moved it toward the outside of the truck about 2 inch so it would be inline with blazer bed side. I molded it around the gas tank and seat latches. Kinda ghetto as i said doestn look at the pretty but it seam very sturdy which it most important.

What psi did you use to achieve that texture? it came out super nice i did see what looks like runs on the side walls is it hard to spray on vertical surfaces. You think 3 would do the floor and tail gate or better of to get 4 and have extra?
 
I dont think the fenderwells are wider just the inner bed sides are in different spots. The blazer bedsides arent as wide so you can get to the back of the bolts that hold the fiberglass top on. That my guess.
 
It looks great to me!

The suburban's inside upolstered panels attach directly to the bedsides, whereas the blazer has brackets that stand off of the bedsides, so the blazer inside IS wider.

It's weird, you would just have to see it up close!

Got my window frame sprayed yesterday so they can install the window today. Want to get the new window in to make masking the truck easier and to be able to legally drive it to the paint booth for the final coat. Found out im my orders got cancelled to minot north dakota so im gonna go back and fix a few smll dent i wasnt worried about. Got more time to fix the truck now.

Looking good RED .. i had asked what psi did you shoot the al's liner at the texture looks nice and fine.
 
I think I had the gun set at 35 or 40. I had a small regulator at the gun with a disposable water filter. The thing about the gun is its always blowing air you just use the trigger to release the liquid liner. So if I wasnt shooting liner I instanly unplugged the gun to keep the air pressure up in my tank. That worked really good. If you shoot watch out for corners and take them slow I made it look goopy and runny in a couple corners. I didnt pull the trigger all the way either that way there was more air to liquid which misted the liner on. After I was done I had a small amount left over which I went over the whole floor and misted it on so it would look even too.
 
Misting it like that is the best way to get a good even looking coat.

And like you said, don't go wide open on the gun, ease into it to get a feel for a good amount of spray. :D
 
Well im lazy. I finally got a heater for my garage so this week ive been finishing the wet sanding to hopefully get some some color on the burban. Got all my seats installed now. My brand new motor has a knock now so i gotta pull it out and see what is wrong. I will get some new updated pictures. Also im gonna make a coloradok5 sticker for the windshield at work.
 
got some paint on the beasturban

Well got the burban covered in red. Had a couple problems while spraying that made my gun pressure drop and reduced the atomizing of the paint. I got some orange peel so i added a couple extra coats of paint to be able to wetsand it. So time to get out the 1200 grit and starting that process. Will take some better pictures once I get it sanded and buffed up.

So uh, did you drive it into the garage on those rims? too many burnouts?:wink1: Lookin good there.
