1980 gmc.. build thread.. im back.. post 438. :/

since everyone is doing it. i thought why not me too? long story short for my truck.. i got this truck 1 year and 10 months ago from my finacee for my late birthday and it was only 300 bucks. and we both got together 2 years ago.. this saturday 5/5 will be our 2 year anniversary.. So far i rebuilt the engine. the original engine broked on me. the cam was flat. replaced that. next tranny blew and i guess jerked the engine bad and made it spun the bearing in piston number 7 and 8, i kept the engine to rebuild later. new engine got rebuilt and is going strong. but its only abt 6 k miles now after a year and 8 months i think. tranny got rebuilt at the same time. beefy with shift kit. all i can say is the truck screams. i first got the truck it was 64,000 original miles and the owner was 80 something yrs old. im the 2nd owner so i like that!. well enough of the story! heres my truck.

Looks like a good start. So what are the plans for it?:D
my plan is get everything checked out and rebuild. im hoping for a 6 inch lift. may lean to 4 inch.. still havent figure out the plan yet.. most likely is 6 inch lift. and 4 inch heavy duty rear springs with 2 1/2 inch blocks in back. im still not too sure about anything.. been racking my brain alot abt those stuff.. 3/4 ton axles is going on. some more.. need to think of what else. will post when ihave a idea. and need ur help n pointers too.. thanks!..

Well if you listen to Trevor/SkyyK5 he will have you talked into 6 inch in no time. :D I was going to go with 4 inch but hes got me talked into going 6 now.

since you have a trailer the decision can be really easy. cut off anything that doesn't get you down the trail. I would go with a 4" shackle flip, 2" spring and a longer shackle in the rear. 6" springs in the front.

a lil work from a few days ago.. took me abt 2 days..

did a lil of work.. took me abt 2 days of work to take everything apart. heres the pics..

one problem. that trailer isnt mine. i borrowed it for 1 weekend from my transmission man. i only borrowed it to bring the other truck home but that fell thru. and i dont really want shackle flip since my truck will osscally(sp?) haul abt 2 ton to 3 ton of dirt and rocks.. i have done it. and boy did that truck do alot of scrap work.. so need it to stay beefy.. and trust me u will be suprised to see where i took the truck thru in the woods with stock suspension.. and other truck was sitting on 6 inch lift.. i was right behind him the whole time.. in.. i would say pretty tight spot n etc.. let just say this. im not scared to take my truck anywhere.. just i aint drivin the truck to work ever again! i spend 100 dollars in 1 day just to go to and from work.. thats 200 miles tho.

Oh and how are those lug nuts working out for ya?

look at that. you are already loaded on the trailer and ready to go wheeling.

2-3 ton in the back of that old of a truck is asking for disaster. I want some to show me actual statistics where a shackle flip hurt payload or towing ability. You have the newer truck, make this one a toy. it's cheaper.
