1980 gmc.. build thread.. im back.. post 438. :/

Once he gets all the parts off it he can put it in his yard and then there will be a roughly 12' by 4' section of grass he won't have to mow. :p:
:haha: the only good use it will have is plowing.. and i was thinking im gonna take off everything in the back but leave the winch on, and lift it abt 2 to 4 inches. put on 33s to 35s tires. single rear wheel not dually.. and make it a resuce tow truck to winch out stuck peeps or heeps..
its all a talk and a dream now..

back to subject

Any news?
back to the subject. i finally got the picture of my spring area that moves a lil bit. and i didnt get the truck to the shop yet to get frontend rebuild. i just broked 1,100 to buy the new truck and got my finacees car back from the shop. sat at the shop for the last 6 months finally its fixed.. damn 1st shop never worked on it, 2nd shop got it running in only 3 weeks. 800 to get the car back, 300 for the truck. heres the picture of my spring. between my 2 finger is where it moves.

I still don't get what the heck you're talking about... its solid there... if that section is moving the entire spring pack would be moving...

Oh is that what he's talking about?

Looks like it'd hit the hanger before it could move much...

I say the front spring bushing is shot and he is seeing the spring move in and out of the spring hanger.

You have stock style steering correct?

all bushings are new. and its the top spring that is moving up and down nothing else. then steering setup is stock. im guessing that is the problem. im not going crossover til i get a d60. i try to be as clear i can. the top part of the spring between my finger is moving nothing else.

Are the u-bolts tight? b/c if the top spring is moving then its shifting between the spring pad and the top plate...

Oh and I doubt its b/c you don't have x-over... I don't have x-over and I'm running 8" Superlift springs...

thats what i thought abt the stock steering setup. cause i had that on my old gmc and it was good. everythings torqued to yeild. ill have to get the front axle rebuilt then try it again. and brace. so wait n see. but that wont happen for a while.

Is is moving up and down between your fingers or from the front to the back of your truck across your fingers?

I am going to have to see video!

Are you sure you are not seeing the springs seperate and it looks like that the top leaf is moving? Optical illusion?

Thanks for quoting me!:D
i guess its time to learn how to do the video. will post it when i get around to it, probably today will get a video of it then learn how to put it on the computer and download it to here. either tonight or tomorrow. gotta learn when u need help

no video. i looked at my plowtruck, and my friend came by with his truck he has 4 inch lift on half tons. mall crawler mostly i looked at his springs while he steer back n forth with both of my truck and his truck, they all has the same behavior so i guess its how its made.. thats a relieve for me, so brace and new ball joints should be helpin alot cause mines shot..

Just got through reading your build, that's a good looking truck. Your need to come down with Julian and Jay to URE next spring so we can see it in action.

thanks. i havent worked on her for almost a month. tomorrow im gonna do the rear bumper, im gonna make a temp one out of a c beam steel as a bracket and a 6 inch c beam across as a bumper, its only temp so i can get it on the road. it would be nice to go to URE to see how gmc does in action. but i dont think shes ready for that. i been looking for a rottened out 1 ton pick up truck for the front axle (D60) and maybe some parts. and convert it to tbi. then she might be ready. there will be update again. soon i hope...

rear bumper..

hey im off work today, so this morning i went to my dads shop and was lookin at the 80 gmc.. so i decided to do the rear bumper now instead of later.. heres how it looks so far, will probably finish it tomorrow. i ran out of the wires for the mig. this is a temp bumper, but im pretty sure it will look good once i clean it up. sorry about the pic size.. gotta learn how to resize it.
