I know we have talked at length, several times, but dude, now that you have a girlfriend you need to recognize something. She is the reason you haven't touched the truck in months. Before her you were just slow. With a girlfriend you have to have a new strategy of just working on whatever you can, whenever you can. Or it will never, ever get done. The other thing we have talked about many times is how you need to break free of this desire for perfection. The truck was far from perfect when you were driving it and you loved every minute. I would rather drive a truck that wasn't perfect than not drive a truck that I'm trying to make perfect. It's just not a good trade off. It also doesn't go hand in hand with having the type of relationship you and your girl seem to have. She will not let you have the free time and money that it takes to achieve perfection.

My point is, do what you can, when you can, get the truck on the road, and enjoy it!

not to flog a dead pony.... but I'm gonna just throw an observation out... hopefully you can see it for the constructive side that's it's intended to be.....

it must be the intraweb, but it motivates people, young people to go WAY beyond their capabilities sometimes IMO..... I NEVER would have attempted such a project in my early 20's.. I was still building stuff with bolt on parts, with little, minor customizing here and there...

I just think it takes HELLA balls, to try and do a project like this when you had never burned a single bead beforehand... having to hire someone to do the welding on a project like this, to me, is a recipe for it not getting done.. glad to see you trying to learn that skill..

not that it's a bad thing, crash course can be some of the best learning experiences.. I just think sometimes young guys get in over their head, "eye's bigger than their stomach" scenario as far as builds go... it's happened before in here, with success, and failure.. I certainly had some when younger, and came out a better fabber/mechanic, but it can be trying...


do what you gotta do man.... but honestly, you should probably at least try to set aside a couple hr's a week to start up again.. evaluate what you need to do to get the truck running (not pipedreams of more mods), AND GO DO IT..

1 night a week... 1/2 a day on the weekend.. it's not much, but a little forward progress weekly can mean a TON... look at my tubebed, I was looking at a 500, 600+ hr project, 5, 6g's in funding, but every couple hr's or hundy I put into it put's me that much closer.. and more importantly, motivates me...

if your squeeze don't understand that need, or you would rather hang with her, you need to re-evaluate one, the other, or both IMO..

This "very, very secret weapon" isn't a certain notorious member of this forum that likes to see how much air time he can get until something major breaks and then build it up stronger only to repeat the process, is it?

If your girt won't let you spend money and time on your truck, why not try to get her involved? Take her wheeling or to an event and let her see what you're trying to accomplish and then encourage her to spend time with you working on the truck together. That's what I would try.

I was wondering why you haven't posted in a while. There's only one thing in this world that can make a man stop pursuing a dream that he used to be obsessed with. And I'm not talking about lack of money either, 'cause there's ways around that. Anyone care to guess what it is??

Try not to be discouraged, Ben. I have been following this build for a while and you have impressive plans, but the question is how to execute them?

It took me a month and a half to do my LS swap, that was weekends and after work every damn day. I am 21 and worked by myself to accomplish it. I do realize that the magnitude of your project is 10 times what mine was; Don't feel cut short, you CAN do it!

I also had the GF issue with funds and free time, i found it helpful to plan my week in advance and tell her straight out that "I can see you 3 nights this week." Try to formulate a game plan and start tinkering, before you know it you will have made a ton of progress. [emoji41]

Not to go far in depth but I sold my car, moved out had to loan out some money and had a death in the family. I'm not making excuses but I will be starting up soon again. I'm not giving up just took a little break so to speak.

I do enjoy pushing myself to create something further then my capabilities, if I didn't I feel I either rushed or I'm not learning anything more then to how to cut the shortcut even further now. She loves the truck just as much as I do, she has a soft spot for old chevy's and loved every minute of Blazer Bash. The ride home she kept asking me if the truck would be done for next year for her and the dog to ride in.

Thanks for the props, I very much appreciate it. I wanted to create something I would be proud of, something that I couldn't go to AutoZone and get off the shelf. I did bite off a tremendous amount to take on with no fab knowledge. I have learned a lot on the way and continue to learn as I go. I enjoy the constructive criticism it just when it is taken to the next level it hurts a little. Being called lazy, a waste of a truck and so on seems to hurt my pride.

She can't wait to ride in it, says hey look at that truck is yours going to be like that? She defiantly isn't the reason it is taking so long. I have thins weird thing in my head saying I can't take advantage of people and I have to repay them for something. I can't take and take without giving anything. I feel bad asking to borrow her car without her permission or taking it for the entire day knowing she has stuff to do.

We have split bank accounts and that will continue until we see the time to get married if we do. The worst part of this thread is the fab, I can't fab to save my life. I'm trying my best when I have the time to learn. I still continue to this day reading threads, trying to better my knowledge.


Hopefully this answers everyone's questions if you have any just shoot and I will answer.
