That may suck.
Wd40 it over night. Wipe with a dry rag. If that does not remove it all, more wd40 and a soft scotch brite bad. You should have one left over from the paint work. Be very gentle.

The coolant and black stuff. It's a runner just didn't expect that. It's going to get resealed and a fresh coat of paint.
I thought it was a lq4, but it does have flat tops so that would make it a lq9.

I couldn't care less about the pistons. It's the rust on the wall is what I was looking at. This is why you should always turn an engine over every now and them. Squirt oil in the spark plug holes.
It appears to just be coolant not rust.
That's a relief. Now for the good. Get those flat tops resealed and work on getting the truck done.

Not sure on these new fangled engines. I am not the guy to ask. When you said reseal, I assumed that is what you meant. Or are you just doing checks and gaskets?
if you are going to re-ring it, you need to at least run a hone over the cylinder to put a fresh cross-hatch to the walls..
at that point, your pulling rods... advisable to look long and hard at the bearings at that point... anytime you start tearing down a rotating assembly, rings and bearings are the norm..
my suggestion? clean the cylinder up and FRIGGIN RUN IT!

Don't waste your time pulling pistons unless you tear it completely down and have it bored and stroked
Good cause really all I wanted to do was clean it up and slap new head gasket on, only reason why I took the heads off was because last time the bolts were reused and they are torque to yield...

Clean cylinder, run.
You need to get that truck running. You should have no excuse, I was just in Scottsdale for the 3 day for meetings and the weather there was great 53 in the mornings and around 80 in the afternoon.
Just clean it up change the rear main seal and run it!
With Shawn's help that thing should be up and running in a couple of weekends.
