If that trans had a t-case behind it before, how does it not recognize that it has one now. Does it need reprogrammed to see it?
The 4l60E has the vss signal on a 2wd in the extension housing. Sense this is a 4wd case it is moved to the transfer case. I'm using a 1991 NP241 to keep the driveshaft on the passenger side, If I used the 4l60E original tcase it would be driver drop and the 91 doesn't have those parts to tell the ecm it's in low.

Basically I need to add a micro switch to the shifter when I install it to ground out a wire on the ECM telling it that the tcase is in low and it will shift properly.

Thanks for the schooling, old dog needs to learn new tricks.:bow::bow:
No worries any time, this is why I post up so much so I can learn as well.

Slow day at work, looking up parts. I'm going to build a list and see which one is more cost effective and hopefully run with it.

Sounds like you have a handle on that side of things...now just get a good 241 and be done....

A 208 is fine, if you started with one.

Nobody goes from a 241 to a 208.

That is true, but the 208 is plenty strong enough and there is a lot more available. I don't have anything against the 241 just isn't as available and common. I could go to a junkyard and get a 208 for these trucks all day long.

Looks like this is probably my best bet if I want to use a 208.

@454Sub and @swettysblazer if you guys could look at your stash box this weekend that would be much appreciated! Thank you.
Hey man, I may have an adapter sitting on my shelf that will work for you. Remember, originally I had a 208 working with my 6.0.
Just gotta check and make sure I didn't sell it to someone else already.

As I recall, it was only $65

I do have this, not sure what it is to be honest. It appears to be just a speedometer adapter to a electric gauge, I don't think it will work as a vss.

When I discovered my 241 was garbage from the extension housing being installed incorrectly and breaking the extension housing itself, I made a couple of calls and picked up one at a local boneyard. Car-part.com shows 9 in Colorado yards alone and 2 in AZ. One of the CO units is a rebuild for $750. Lowest price was $275.

The one I ended up with was actually in better shape than the one that came in my truck. Mine had a loose chain, lots of metallic debris in the case and little to no oil in it. The replacement unit was tight. All I had to do was reuse the 28 spline input from mine since the one I got was the real unicorn with the 32 spline input for a 4l80.

Fixed...

Don't you work for GM?

After meeting you the other day (which was cool), I imagine folks don't get too far with you when they're wrong...

It was cool to meet you too. People don't get too far. I've been running the shop for 8 or 9 years now (lost count due to the fun!) and I did get rolled by a few customers early on. I can hold my own and deliver the message GM has instructed without a problem. I've learned not to take shit from anybody that's for sure. As long as they don't start attacking me personally I'm pretty chill and take a lot of flak. However, when they start taking personal digs at me (the adjective "fat" seems to be the go to) and a switch flips. At that point I know I'm not going to please them and it's time for them to leave. NOW. I make sure I'm very clear and usually, the whole building hears it. I'm not proud of it, but that exchange tends to be very unprofessional until they get the message and vacate the property.

I'm trying to not get to that level anymore as I'm geeked up on adrenaline for the next hour and want to go punch a car after it happens. Typically I will go walk the yard and beat the snot out of an impound unit. So far this year I've had a couple tense cases and kept my cool when the customer took it to the next level. I think it's going to save me from a stroke.

Entire place is fun. :waytogo:
Some days are better than others. Except for when the full moon is out. Something about the moon makes people go batshit crazy. We tend to see it every month. Didn't believe in the full moon fever theory before but I'm a true believer now.

My wife is a CNA at a Sr care facility. She absolutely fears the full moon. Especially if she works nights.
