I made brackets for my leveler that bolted to the the 4 outside intake manifold bolts. Just used longer bolts.

You can leave them on if you're taking the radiator support off.

X2. You can do it with a load leveler and some ass pain even with the core support attached. I just don't bother and do them separate.

With as much work as he is going to be doing, with the GEN III engine install, I would take off the entire front clip.

That is exactly what I'm going to do especially with the 91 grille conversion and getting it painted.

Plan for tomorrow is get the front end off, get the engine ready to be pulled, and possibly start mocking up the front suspension brackets. Saturday I plan on pulling the engine and trans, and finishing up the front end.

almost ready!

You guys think it would be ok if I bolted the load leveler chain directly down on the intake manifold? Would I need longer bolts or will the intake bolts work? If I need longer bolts anyone know the size?

Thanks

You would need longer bolts and probably thick washers too to keep the heads of the bolts from going through the chain. They are 3/8-16 in whatever length. like 2" or longer.

I'm just afraid that it might crack the manifold? I would torque them down to the normal intake bolt spec.

You are talking about pulling the four outer most bolts that bolt the intake to the heads right? If thats the case it will absolutly not crack the manifold. I have done it plenty. Usually not with a load leveler and usually with just one chain going from the front left intake bolt to the right rear intake bolt. This puts the hoist hook right over the carb and puts it pert near level. Thats just how i do it. Many ways to skin a cat.

Awesome, sounds perfect and the way I will be doing it. Have you done this with the tranny attached also?

Thanks guys, this is the second engine I have pulled out the correct way. The last time was out of the suburban I parted out. It was a little sketchy pulling a 350/700r4 with 2 floor jacks. :haha:

I've pulled them out every different way you can think of. As long as it's out, it really doesn't matter.

Martin

Yes but this is 500 on the line and I want to do this correctly and I care about this one.

Thanks guys, I will have a extra set of hands tomorrow so I should be golden. I hope my next picture update is me riding the cherry picker using the tranny as a saddle.

The pic I'm waiting to see is a front shot of that 82 with a differential after so many years of you complaining that it was a 2nd
