Got my bump plates made today, took about 3 and a half hours so far.

Before anyone asks why did it take so long I was using a cut off wheel, grinding wheel and flap disks on a 4 inch angle grinder.

You have to start somewhere. And with limited tools, it takes longer.

Is this plate going over the axle bolts? If so, I would have drilled the holes first. Made sure it fit. Then cut it down to size.

Cut off wheels, grinding wheels and flap discs with a 4 inch grinder.


I was mostly shaping it with the flap disc because I cut like a drunk.

Wade after I cut it I realized I should have drilled the holes first. Adam, I made 2 of them in that time.

Seems I made the plate to small.

I'll make it bigger and have the hole slotted like the u bolt plates. Has anyone ever had u bolts that were not a perfect U? OCD is not allowing me to just say it's ok and not get new ones.

If the plates aren't slotted, they slide on. If the holes are not slotted, a lot of times, a camp is needed to squeeze the bolts closed. So yes, not a perfect U.

Guess I got a project for Tuesday then, I'll have to pick up some more steel I ran out.

I don't know why I didn't think of drilling the holes first, oh well rookie mistake.

Make one out of cardboard first. Then drill the holes. Then cut it down.

Good idea, I have heard of all this and know it. I just didn't put it all together.

I did accomplish something today, I fixed the washing machine. The coupling for the agitator off the transmission was stripped Not allowing it to spin.

I guess you can say I made a nice paper weight also.

A stripped motor coupler is a common occurance on Kenmore-type machines. The coupler will break due to age, but usually the culprit is overloading the machine to the point where the drum can't move easily. I tried to tell my wife that, but she likes to load the machine until the lid will barely stay closed.

This was a 10 year old ge so it was about due.


I went to the steel yard today. Got some pieces for the bump pad and can mounts. Even got some extras for learning on.
