Looks like I need to get a double u joint steering shaft with support bearing. ORD lists one for 350 bucks, might go that route but would like something cheaper if possible.

Is yours the stock steering shaft or something else?

The reason I ask is that most of the cost of the shaft we list is in a Borgeson shaft, the extra joint is like $85. But I've never deal with an XJ shaft so I don't know how those can be cut/spliced and what joint would fit them.

Also, I don't remember seeing any bump stops, what are you using?
 
Enjoy the build. I enjoy building about as much as I do wheeling. I average building a new rig every three years.
 
I wonder if you could use 2 XJ shafts to make one like you need. They're so cheap, you could get several and do some experimentation.
 
Well I have came to the conclusion Moab is a bust. I can't build the truck I want in the order of time I have.

I'll look Into a jeep rental for a day and maybe hitch a ride the next.
 
Dry heat is a ton easier to take than a wet heat. My wife and I got married in a pretty hot area of BC many moons ago. It was 106 F, we got married outside and it was hot, but completely tolerable in pants and shirt etc. The humidity was probably in the 20-25% range.

My only real experience with humidity was on a trip to Texas in '01 at the end of May. Temp was only 80-82 F, but the humidity was over 90%. I about died...

I'm sure if you live with humidity you get used to it, but it still kicks your ass way harder than dry heat.

Sucks you won't get the rig done for BB14, but I think it's better to not make build compromises in order to make it. A rental Jeep, or just riding bitch with someone else still makes for a hell of a cool trip! :waytogo:
 
I agree it's going to nickle and dime me to the end and I don't know if I can afford it.

Swollowed my pride on it but it's better in the end.
 
I have been in 100% humidity and it wasn't any different to me. Even when it's dry I'm soaked in swet, so it feels humid to me.

We've been in the low 60s today. Would be wonderful if the humidity wasn't so high (water falling from sky :haha:). Changing rotors today has been a wet job indeed!

So...cool + rain isn't much nicer than heat + dry skies if your truck is outside.

Either way, I'd take snow over 120F temps any day... :rolleyes:
