I give up keeping up. I open this thread and I am 3 pages behind.:eek1:

New rules proposed for this thread.

Ben can only post once for each hour of work on the truck.:grind:

The rest of us can only post once per day.

I honestly have no idea why this thread has half the replies it does. I just Enjoy the encouragement and the kind words shared.

Sounds complicated and expensive. Why do think you need this? What are you going to use the truck for that it would need that? I'm just saying.

Not really, just want to keep it cool and don't want to replace a trans more frequently then needed. Cheap insurance I guess.

What is your intended use for this truck? Given how long stock trannys last in gentle usage, I'm having a hard time justifying putting in special tranny equipment in a "mall crawler." I wouldn't think you'd be replacing the tranny for a long time with that level of usage. Do you secretly have super cool ambitions for heavy-duty wonderfulness?

to be serious for a moment.... above and beyond any cooler setup, someone running a remote aux trans filter is basically a $50 mod...

always good, changing a spin-off periodically saves you dropping pans more frequently.. I have one on the 700 in the K5...

pretty small potatoes, but combined with eleventy other mods, it add's up coin-wise, and time-wise..... to the squirrel conundrum...

just a rib jab to keep you focused on getting the rig done... ;)

Ryoken, you're gonna hafta explain this one. Two weeks ago a similar instance of the squirrel comparison brought some harsh words from you. And now you expect the same comparison to be received nicely when you use it? I'm confused. I don't have a problem with your comparison, but why did you have a problem with mine?

worry about/build your own sh*t.. you're not living his life...

your ribbing is only funny/inflating to you, not motivation for him...

I'm not the one to answer to, your conscience is.. sometimes reading what's going on in a build beyond what pic's/updates you're seeing is important.. he knows where everyone stands in here, without being poked in the ribs..

Do anything I want it to, I have secretly jumped every vehicle I have owned. I have a heavy foot and beat my vehicles a little to hard it seems but not hard enough cause I don't break anything. The mall crawler is just a joke I thought was funny.

I agree, way easier, but the trans has a drain plug, now that I think about it, that is way easier but also looses more fluid.

it's a nice mod... just draining off the pan not only loses more fluid, but a remote filter means you don't have to change the trans filter 1/5th the time.. just by doing a 5 minute filter spin-off you can avoid pulling the pan way less...

if it's something that can be worked in the budget, engineered for, easy enough.. whether that's a simple bracket off the frame, etc, it's a nice mod for any auto.. but as I alluded to, the costs, time may not be huge, but as you've learned thru this build, things tend to be cumulative...

use that reminder at your own risk... ;)

I'd do it. A trans can't have too much filtration, and considering you're in the desert, I'd get a big ass cooler. I realize it's another thing on the already long list now, but it'll be easier to plumb in now, vs later.

And fwiw, my F150 project is getting both.

When the pan filter sucks up the fluid, it goes where first?
Is the spin on filter (in line with the cooler) at the end of the fluid's journey? Headed back to the bottom of the pan before it's picked up by the pancake filter?

correct.. I like to run mine post cooler to help keep the oil in the cooler as long as possible.... a spin on will keep the factory filter super clean..

I installed mine on the way to the cooler.

I went over after work today and pulled the lifters out, some are questionable with a "race line" off the center.

One thing I hate is a noisy engine that isn't necessary, should I replace all or the ones questionable?

Good job for going over there after work! I think you might want to ask your question, with pics, over on ls1tech.com.

Most likely correct, I'm a bit torn on what to do. Even at employee cost the gm lifters are 480 dollars but a after market set by comp cams is half.:dunno:

Proper engineering design says to put the filter before the cooler. Hot fluid filters more efficiently.

But in an application like this, it probably won't matter.

there are occasions where better cooling is more important than better filtering IMO.. this is one.. I figure it already has one, the spin-on is just over the top..... but I could be wrong in that approach, it's happened before.. :doah::haha: as you said, doubt it makes much dif here...

That is correct and at that price I'll replace all of them.... Might as well.

I bought them, I'll have it for the weekend.

You'd be silly to not do them all while its apart. Do it once, do it right. Isn't that the point of your build?
