Later this week, I want to weld a exhaust flange on and get a new cooler.
Speaking of that how do I weld on the flange with my mig, I'm not sure what kind of pipe was used. I don't think it's aluminum but it has the color of it? Will my 75/25 mix work?

I wire wheel both sides of the joint and use a series of tack welds instead of trying to run a bead. Just make sure the tacks flow into each other. Also run the welder a little higher voltage than what the chart would suggest for the gauge tubing you use. That seems to give me the best results.
Keep moving if you use that technique because you'll blow huge holes if not.
Yeah I just an inch at a time and move around the pipe in 90 degree increments.
That's how I do it too, just have to Prerun the weld and position comfortably.
I like the tack weld method, I should be able to pull the one off

Funny you mention that, on the way home I thought if I wire wheel it enough it will be close to Polish it.

Something that has always worked for me when possible is having someone else turn the exhaust tubing while your welding it. Obviously impossible while in the truck but can be helpful if exhaust can be easily removed and installed again.

I'm sure you already know this, but make sure you flush out the trans cooler REAL good. If you can't get it clean replace it. You don't want old crud ruining your new tranny.
I think he and the trans builder decided it would be safer to spend $50 on a new cooler.
