Bypass the radiator, no need at all to run the fluid through it. They are cleaning out the water part of the radiator not the trans part.
Because it's cheaper to use one cooler than two. At that point why bother with the extra cooler. Just run your magical gypsy voodoo radiator and it will save all the nuns and puppies.Because it is a tried and true method, why else would manufactures do it?

I vote ditch the trans lines in the radiator, you don't need ever so slightly better fuel mileage with quickly warmed fluid. You want longer trans and fluid life with cool fluid, and no chance that debris will ruin another trans, and no chance that someday down the road it will break internally and mix coolant with trans fluid and vice versa and make a real mess.
I keep going back and forth, but this seems like the best solution along with a temp gauge.
Most late model electronic controlled transmission factory harnesses have a temp probe built into them that is in the trans pan oil. So you can probably read it with the torque app and a bluetooth deal if your OBDII port works correctly.
