I don't see the point in welding this. It will see 80% street. No reason to be tossing hundos out the window down the road.

Detroit would be cool but let's be real guys, do I really need a Locker? I really enjoy a G80 and the performance.

I feel like a Detroit is something so simple and reliable that it just belongs. It will be there for you whether you need it or not.
I suggested g80 earlier on for your truck. But for me, I chose detroits.

I like the detroit. I don't like ARB because when its locked its like a spool, so it limits your turning when it gets bound up. A detroit won't do that, it will always allow one wheel to turn faster, but never slower. This prevents the bind and allows easier turning even when offroading. I don't have an issue with the detroit in the back of the 14BFF on the street, I think all the of the 14BFF version are the SL at this point?

that's when you unlock it.

Can't do that with a detroit.

and my Detroit is quiet, must be one of those newer ones.

You don't ever need to, it allows either wheel to turn faster any time. And once an ARB is bound up from a turn, good luck unlocking it. Better plan ahead, no need to with the detroit.

My point is simply this, an ARB can either be an open diff or a spool, it can never be a Detroit(which is more like a ratchet). A detroit is the best of both at the same time in my opinion without all the extra air lines and complexity. Lets say you are climbing up a hill while turning at the same time. A detroit can send the power to the inside wheel with the most traction while at the same time allowing the outer wheel to freewheel faster around the turn. An ARB cannot do that. You get to select whether you want to spin the outside tire and not go anywhere, or bind it up and possibly need to jockey it around the turn with some forward/reverse action.

If he likes the G80, then stick with it. You can't put a detroit in a G80 carrier anyway in a 14BFF. They are different carriers. Or maybe he doesn't have a 14BFF, I don't even know.

I have a 05 aam 10.5 so yes new carriers.

I was so paranoid about putting the spartan locker in the rear of my Blazer. I was so worried about how it was going to behave on the street.

It is SO not a big deal. I have no regrets, most of the time I don't even know it's there.

I just pulled out my Detroit Locker and got an ARB. The Detroit is great in anything but the pavement. Not clanking around turns, I just did not like it pulling my Blazer from side to side when you either stepped on the gas or let off it. Since I drive in the city, to me, I found this to be dangerous in traffic.

Everything was true. After replacing it and reading more about this locker, It seemed to be a common issue for on pavement driving. Not saying Detroit Locker is bad, it did awesome everywhere else, just saying in my case It was not for me.

Mine does just a touch of this. It prolly wouldn't be a problem if the steering was tight. As it is I spent a few miles getting used to it.

The detroit pushing you one direction of the other with spirited driving on the street is totally normal. Since the rear of most vehicles is still leaf sprung you have tiny changes in rear axle alignment due to bushing compliance and even how compressed one spring is compared to the other. This in effect turns the rear axle under the vehicle some amount, accelerate hard from a stop when it wants to "lockup" and it will push you one way or the other.

Having had both a detroit and ARB in both a recreational use and racing use, I'll take the ARB everytime. It's 100% predictable with no guessing as to if it's locked or unlocked. I wouldn't have a detroit in something that I drove on the street at this point in my life, if it was a recreational wheeling vehicle that I drove to Moab or the trail head thats' one thing, but something that is a 50% street rig I would do an ARB myself.

Of course Ben has blown so many Tranny's in the last year that he has used all his free cash up rebuilding them so he probably needs to be careful about locking up his black rubbers in the rear.

Dirty and appropriate

Exactly what I was thinking.

Our next race is February 11th I'm trying to contact Snore to volunteer to do recovery, more points for our team and I can do a mobile pit. It's a short course style and we won't have a pit so it works. Kind of bending the rules a little but totally legal.
