Nor sure yet, bought some fluid and going to top of off and pray. Just wondering it's the last thing that isn't new drive train wise on the truck. I wouldn't be against rebuilding it anyway...
Hard to find a 91 with a vss. I wouldn't mind having a spare also laying around for reasons like this.
2/3rds of the passenger-drop NP241s out there will have VSS (1990/1991). It's only the 1989 models that have mechanical speedo. If you find one of those, simply transfer over your existing VSS tailhousing.
They make noise when they're low. It should be good
Just an FYI, I got a rebuild kit for my '90 from ORD, but there are other places, too.
I found a chain, oil pump, and tail housing bushing on ebay.
I only did the oil pump because I thought it was cheap, since I had to get parts from the same company..

Filled it up and it still makes noises.... Guess it's time for rebuild! Are these difficult to do? I assume the bearings are pressed in?
Wood chips work great for silencing bearing sounds
Also turning up the radio helps
I do have some mesquite from the smoker!!!
Purposely haven't installed it so I can get rid of the noises....

Naaa, would prefer leafs in the rear. I got some plans and a backup plan if that doesn't work.

Well, that's your problem! Get that radio installed and all the noises will fade into oblivion...
Ya until I leave half the tcase on the road and have to call a tow truck or rent a trailer to retrieve it.
I would rather just fix it in my garage.
