I think what Bent is getting at is you need something built bulletproof. AKA like an anvil. Since you've proven you lack the part of your brain to be easy on stuff, you need to beef it up. Then you can drive it like a hoon and not break stuff on burnouts. 35" sticky tires and decent HP means you will find the weak spot. Not sure what can be done to beef up a 241 short of replacing it with a 205 and loosing the good low range, but that may be the way to keep from blowing stuff up.

You'll either beef it up to the point you can't break it at the current HP level you have or you'll grow tired of fixing broken parts from driving like a maniac showing off. Lord knows I've done the same thing and figured out the crowd you are showing off too ain't taking up a collection if you do break stuff for their pleasure. That's coming from the Dad in me though. Some days following your build is like watching Lucy pull the football from Charlie Brown when he goes to kick it. Every time you think he's going to get it and still something goes wrong. Sure never gets boring to follow though.

Still your tenacity to push through and fix it and get past the problem is commendable. Don't loose that. It's frustrating, but your truck is getting better with every change you make.

This makes perfect sense, I understand and I know I'm hard on it. I might be weird and enjoy working on it a lot.
 
You can buy pieces to fix it. If you need bearings, I think that a kit will be the way to go.
Did you feel the slack in the chain through the fill hole, before you split the case? That much play isn't horrible, but I would put one in it.
I wouldn't swap to a 205. If the 241HD can put up with what Cummins trucks get put through , I believe that you will be good with rebuilding yours. Look up how much a reman unit goes for, and you will be glad to do the work on what you have.
Pay close attention to how things go during assembly.
 
Just now I was confused because I thought @Bent77 was saying an NP241 was plenty strong after having just argued for an Atlas. I think avatar changing should be banned.

Put a 205 behind an 600hp Cummins and it will implode. They aren't the Holy Grail of strength that Facebook will tell you. Unless your using it as a hammer for busting Rubicon rocks down to size. The 241 will take 11,000 ft lbs of pain before it kaputs, over 1,000 more than the 205.

The pump ears are a common problem and check the case as it tends to wear into the case and tear it up. That's plenty fixable.
 
I wish I could afford a Atlas, I agree a 241 should be plenty and I'll rebuild mine when I source parts, unsure of where to look yet.
 
Amazon has some but the supplier I'm not sure of.

A friend of mine may have a basket full of 241 parts l, I'll know later today.
 
New bearings/chain/seals is all you need.

Everything else is either bad or not. Not really much in between that.
