yes, over torquing will only weaken the bolts. More bolt would make me happier. It is the clamping friction doing the holding.

Yeah I know that but it seems weird? I put red lock tite on it too. It’s like a 7/16 bolt but a metric one and seemed to light to me. But I also put the winch plate on with about 12 1/2 grade 8 with locking hardware. :D

I’d use a winch with a remote mount control box, that looks like a rock magnet hanging like that

Did the bolts have grade marks? I got a batch of crap china bolts with my Engo winch years ago, it made a mess when they decided to shear under load.

yeah that's a good point @83ChevyK5Blazer. back in the 90's we had sheet of bolt head stamps that were bogus counterfeits. We were to look for them on any equipment in our fleet, since the low bid system bought them be the truck load.
I am sure bolts have continued to counterfeited.
Ben go to a fastener shop and get some 10.8 metric bolts to match, the chinesium that came from hf for that winch. I would Kimball Midwest or Tiff co. but they have minimum orders and are $$, but made here still, I think.

You know, I thought about this but it’s nice for someone else to say it.

The control box can be moved, just not sure where to put it now.

I looked thru the thread for pictures but didn't find any. I'm curious where you mounted the Terminator and routed the harness. If you're willing to, I'd appreciate any pics/info.

That’s because I don’t want anyone to know. :haha:

Its zip tied to the dash under the ash tray, the wiring goes through the firewall about where the esc factory wiring goes.

I never mounted it because I wanted to build a sweet console in the center, but I went back to the bench seat. I wanted to mount it to where I could see the lights but honestly if the engine is running I don’t need to see them.

My latest thought is to run the wiring along the tunnel and under the seat, but that’s a big chunk of wiring to have on the floor easily able to smash. The terminator has a lot of real estate of wiring so it will probably have to loop behind the dash and tuck up under the dash to be easier.

This is one of the reasons the truck has no or hardly a interior because I can’t make my mind up how I want it, I go between race car/ space ship cockpit to original daily by the hour.

:rotfl: No worries, I actually suspected it might be something like that after I've been looking at how to deal with all the excess harness; one of the downsides to universal systems. I haven't been inspired with anything ingenious yet either. I'm looking to use the TBI hole in the firewall which is probably similar to your ESC location. I think I'm going to feed most of the harness into the cab, and I should be able to bundle most of it behind the dash. Then mount the ECU to the lower part of the DIY4x dash tucked behind a panel so it's accessible but not entirely out in the open like a dork. I have also thought about putting it under the console too.

I poked a hole in the firewall directly behind the distributor and routed it through there and am planning on putting the terminator in the glovebox.

I like this idea a lot. I know my post was long drawn out but I think you got the point. :haha:

Are you going to run the x max? I think it’s to big without cutting into it. This was another idea of mine but it doesn’t seem like you could screw it together and have it hold.

Yes the X max. I measured a long time ago and it fit if I remember correctly. Cut a slot in the back for the cabling.

IMG_2212.jpegFits right in. Run a small little screw through the mounting holes and bolt it down. At least that’s the plan. Need to actually finish my grounds and get it mounted though. I hate wiring.

Thanks for making me feel lazy at work. :haha:

This just answered my question and where I’ll be putting mine. Thanks!
