Saw something similar in another thread, and thought it suited my restoration.

Thanks a bunch Jason.

Might be some big updates tomorrow if all goes well, can you say vortec? :eek1:

I bought a running 2002 5.3L for $300.:woot:

NICE, this thing is coming along nicely stick with it. I wish my C10 was half as nice as yours but sadly its a smoke breathing rusted out pile...

That being said Im gonna drive it till it dies!

Thanks, it's not nice looking but it has nice pieces, if that makes any sense. I'm on operation poor so I can afford more parts. :D

I knew that vortec deal was to good to be true, it ended up missing alot of other stuff that doesn't equal to be on the good side for me.

2 year and 9 months later I'm back with updates if anyone cares. :haha:I have saved a good chunk of money up to get started on this beast again. It has sat in my driveway holding down the cement and collecting rust in the gas tank.:doah:Also my Dad has been using the bed for storage for his future projects.

Other day I ended up ordering a new tank and sending unit. I purchased a 87 TBI tank for future swaps, but in the mean time it's all about getting it back on the road. I'm going to be doing this build in stages and hopefully not having it off the road for a big amount of time.

Today I ripped out the old gas tank and started painting my brackets and partially the frame. This is going to be a budget rebuild so I just used rust-oleum 12oz "powder coat"

new clean fresh painted brackets.

I'm very excited to get back on this build and I wanted to share my excitement with everybody. :D Could a mod also move this thread into the driveway build threads?

Thanks

Good job getting back on it...and moved to the Driveway for ya. Now the pressure is on to post up regular progress. :haha:

Thanks Rene, I hope I start making some quality progress. A 2wd truck might not spark everyone's interests here but this is a good way for me to keep a blog on everything I have done.

I have limited time to work on this but I hope to get the truck running by the 30th for a cruise here in AZ, I will be in a pack of 4 k5's :thumb: Once I get through emissions next month and get tired of the worn out front end that's next up on the chopping block.

i have a C1500 here too, and I know I'm not alone. They ride so nice compared to the K series...and in my case the diesel gets good mileage too so it's a cool DD.

My C1500 will be my oldest daughters (she just turned 17) pretty soon, so it's gonna get some needed TLC and repairs.

Rene

My truck rides like a dump truck, it's got reworked springs front and rear. When I do the front end, I'm thinking about swapping to 8 lug and a 14 bolt for a 3/4 ton conversion.

My C1500 rides like a Caddy, although it does need a bit of weight in the rear to really be super comfortable. With 300 lbs in the bed it's super smooth...empty it has a bit of chop to the rear.

Which coils do you have up front?

Rene

I really have no idea, my Dad bought them about 20 years ago. They were springs someone ordered at Autozone and the buyer never paid for them. We ended up buying them dirt cheap, and had the factory rear springs re-arched and made to match the front weight capacity.

My Dad said he thinks this truck was originaly purchase for about 500 bucks in 1991.

Grab some 1/2 ton springs from a 6.2 pick-up...they ride really nice.

Rene

The ride doesn't bother me at all it just adds character:thumb: We used to use this truck to haul a cab over camper around when we camped. My goal is to use this truck once again like we used to so the springs are needed.

Yes I'm restoring a work truck that's going to be used as a work truck. :haha:

Well today after work I raced home and started working while I had sun light. I got my sending unit installed, a few coats of paint on the tank, replace part of the factory rubber fuel line, and replaced the carburetor fuel filter.

Not much progress but hey it's something... Sense everyone loves pictures here is something to look at.

Nice and shinny!!!

Tank is in, what a major pain in the ass that was! Truck seems to be running good I will know tomorrow on my way home from work, it likes to chitbricks on the way home. Another positive that happened today is now my gas gauge works. :D

Thanks, this is a different style of build from what is the normal here. The truck being a 2wd I doubt it's a attention getter here, but that's fine.

So far I have about 40 miles with the gas tank in and no problems, today after work I even tuned up the quadrajet better. Judging by my WOT testing from a standstill it has more power, the marks in the road show proof.:haha:

I'm just super pumped driving this again, I'm having more fun driving this then my 365hp 375ft-lbs of torque 09 silverado. :D The silverado does do better burnouts though ahaha...

Took it through emissions testing...

For hydrocarbons it got 0.57 allowed 4.0
carbon monoxide it got 5.41 allowed 40.00
oxides of nitrogen it got 4.59 allowed 5.50

:pimp: It's all paying off, or maybe it was the pep talk I gave it before the test. :haha: To give it a nice treat on the way home I stopped off and topped the tank off with 91 octane...:haha:
