1984 K5 LQ9 "Round 2" Assist hoses?

Got the parts in (finally) to convert my shifter I got off Craigslist to fit the 4L80.

Freaking stoked... Can't wait to finish the interior and see how it looks with the carpet and such.

Ordered up my H pipe, and some other odds n ends I've been missing to finish my gauges, and be able to put the floor back in.

Drove it around the yard, can't wait to get it tuned!

Finally got around to having enough time to brace the frame where the trans crossmember bolted up. As it sat the 2 bolt holes closest to the edge of frame was where I needed to drill in order to bolt up the crossmember... Entirely too close to the edge, without enough material for my comfort.

So, I welded a 3" plate onto the frame, then added some triangles for support. Try to overlook the ugly welds.. I started using .023 wire but stepped up to a .030 by the end.

Also built a upper radiator hose, I welded a 3/8 bolt into a pipe, drilled it out, this allowing me to run the steam vent/port hose directlyl into the upper hose. In theory this will help pull the heat out of the heads via the ports. I'm also running the older style crossover that connects all 4 ports with a single piping system.

Looks factory IMO.

Also finished the exhaust.

Hope to wrap up the interior this week, clean up the under hood wiring and then it's off for a tune.

Put the tunnel back in, as luck would have it the shifter is 1-2" back than stock 4 speed. This made the t/case shifter hit the shift rod in park and 2 hi.

Tried to bend 4x4 shifter.. Broke it.. Haha luckily it was broke just down from the factory bend. Ground it smooth and rotated it in such a fashion it cleared.

Threw the carpet, and hood in. Backed it out, hosed it off, and took a vid.

^^ video, click to watch I guess?

Subscribed! I remember watching that video on pirate! Epic carnage!

Link me!!! I've searched all over to find people's opinions about it hahaha

My favorites are the people who blame the front axle, or weak chevy t-case.

Or just turd chevy in general.

Thanks man, I think I've seen all the YouTube videos. Ill peruse that thread later on.

Yeah.. The speculating comments are always the best. ASE master YouTube mechanics everywhere.

Alright! She's on the road!!

Drug it to my tuner, only to have it not give any VSS output. -,- oh well, drove it around doing the street tune with him shifting it via the laptop. :haha:

Brought it home "new" vss sensor I snagged from the junkyard when I went for the pig tail and she shifted. Steering was atrocious, fought itself all over the road. Took it to work, aligned it.. Had +3.5 degrees toe in.... I could hear it scrub the white lines whilst running down the road. :eek1:

That helped, but it still felt loose... Had my old lady wiggle the wheel while I watched everything.. And as is tradition... Frame is cracked.

Wire wheeled it all clean, Lower right one had a major crack that went all the way down to the bottom of the frame.

Ground grooves along the cracks and welded them up.

Drives a helluva lot tighter.

I'm going to build my own brace, but I'm also considering welding some large flat washers to the frame over the original holes.. Figure that will help disputes the load.

Just a thought that could save you some time abeit spending a bit of coin, but ORD sells a weld on plate (actually 2) that will fix that crack right up, and a bolt in brace that is stupid simple to install. I understand wanting to fab stuff, but IMO some things are just easier to buy rather than make.

Beautiful paint btw, and I seen that video and couldnt believe the people blaming the axle or t-case exploding. It saddens me these people have trucks and couldnt tell that was an clutch and engine explosion.

Thanks man..

I'd love to buy the ORD parts but that's 250$ I won't have for another month. :( figure ill atleast try to fab the brace.

As luck would have it I was perusing pirate classifieds during a break between classes.... I find a fella whose got the exact SYE kit I want, and the weld in brace...

Broke out the credit card.. Haha. Both parts brand new, got the SYE kit with the 1350 flange and weld in repair kit for 375 shipped. :D

Stoked, now to find a cheap superduty shaft.

Epic video

I'm pretty disappointed you decided to go auto. One minor clutch fail left a bad taste in your mouth? :doah:

"Minor" he says... :haha:

Honesty I'm right there beside you.. However add the cost up between a NV4500, a badass clutch, and a bombproof bellhousing. :(

It's quite disheartening haha

Oh I know your pain. I just put in an NV4500 with an Advance Adapters bellhousing. But how much less fun is your truck now? :screwy:

Been drive able 2 weeks, I've driven it 3 times. If that gives you an idea as to my immense disappointment...

I'm going to do a 2800 stall once I've finished the SYE and ladder bars.. If it's still lame as **** the auto will come right out.

Damn thing will push through the converter at stop lights at it sits now anyways haha
