1985 Chevy M1009 (CK5 build thread part 2)

And more suspension fine tuning. I noticed the up-travel on the Skyjacker shocks was limited and would allow them to bottom out before the stock bump stops even touched. Not wanting to break off any shock mounts, or damage the shocks, I ordered up 2 sets of Daystar 4.5" competition bump stops. I have a similar set-up on my K10, and they work well, although they are the Energy Suspension version, which are around $130 a pair now. The Daystar bumps were $53 a pair off of the jungle website. I trimmed the outside front U-bolts to prevent the new bump stops from getting torn up, and massaged the front brackets back to somewhat straight with a big hammer.

Holy Cow I got GMOTM... again! Thanks! :saweet:
And, sometimes it the small things. The front bumper was missing one of the black out lights. I found a NOS one on eBay for $8.00. And @Cucv_M1008 hooked me up with the missing bracket and bolt. A quick fog with some OD and its ready to go.
EDIT: Turned out to be the wrong plug, I used a crimp and seal connector to hook it up.

Softopper is on. Funny thing is I had the same issue @kennyw had when I went to install the new header bars that he got from Softopper to fix this problem:

The header bar was drilled in the wrong place, twice. This led to the top not fitting right before. Once I had it all mocked up on the truck, I saw what I needed to do, move the holes closer on the passenger side bar:

This fixed it and I have good spread on the canvas now.

I also took some time and treated some rust that was forming where the top bolts go.

Next up on the list was to finally get the Fluidampr installed, along with an ARP crank bolt from Quadstar and a new crank seal. I can say it went well, and I completely dodged a bullet here. The OE damper rubber was cracked in multiple places, and it was a ticking time bomb.

I am super happy with the results, the 6.2 seems to idle and run smoother. I was holding back doing any trips until I got the damper swapped.
While taking it apart, I saw that the power steering pump is crooked and the bracket is cracked (as in above pic). I will need to sort that out soon.

Next up: fresh motor mounts and transfer case mounts. I randomly saw the drivers side motor mount had the bolt backed out and crooked! That's a first for me.

I have replaced motor mounts with the factory clam shell style before, but they never seem to last. So I ordered up a set of ORD competition motor mounts along with their poly transfer case mounts, to complete the package. I have this same set-up on my K10 and I am very happy with it. Interestingly, I saw @AugustDiesel recently post up about the comp mounts and how they transmitted annoying vibes into his cab with the 6.2. We will see how it goes for me I suppose. Today, I laid some paint on the bare steel of the mounts, and am hoping to get them swapped in next weekend. I always use Dupli-Color Engine Enamel with Ceramic on all my chassis parts, this time it is a semi-gloss black which is actually a Ford color....oh the sacrilege haha.

Looking good. I’ll be interested to see if your experience is different. My ORD comp mounts will live on in a different truck. I have a build plan developing in my head for my 2wd blue suburban, which will likely continue to run the 350 for a while.
